Rally Chat Steam Fairs

Although not an avid steamophile, is that a word ? I am amazed at the engineering that goes into them. I went to Burells museum in Thetford when at the last Thetford bash along with the Dads army museum. Enjoyed them both immensely. I felt “chuffed” after Burrell’s. Not sure I do the “Dorset“ though.

Spent many hours videoing the heavy haulage in that arena Bobby-gg
Yes steam rallies have been a big part of my life ..however it wasn't for the steam but more for the heavy lorries. Scammells and the Rotinoff being our main entrants. It's a huge show and I was all set for a return this year but with my VW T25.. All the heavy haulage has been sold now. 😥
As regards shows next year I think it will only be the ones later in in the year that will be brave enough to even consider risking it. in addition to the already mentioned very good shows I would add Rempstone held in July Lincoln in August.. and Kettering in September. All brilliant free weekends if you can exhibit something 😏
Debs I am fine thanks hope you are too.....missing MHF rallies more than steam fairs though 😂

My main love is also the heavy haulage, my family were involved in haulage starting with my grandfather in the 1930's, and would you believe it, that until recently, we toured everywhere with our T25 too - small world!

Ha ha I also display an old bakers delivery bike. what sort of bike are you displaying is it a motorbike...

Hi, we are certainly planning afew steam rallies this coming year. I'm alittle worried if we will be aloud to them due to the size of our truck. Can anyone advise who's got similar kind of vehicle.

Thanks

funflair Organised a rally at the Shrewsbury steam fair.
Amazing job he did too.

If he organises another one we will definitely be booking 😉
Nice idea (y) it seems so long since we were allowed to do anything interesting.

Definately, the great dorset. Been about 3 times in the last 6 years. Is commercialised, but worth going. I do a sector at a time, go back , have a rest and then another sector. 3 full days usually covers it for me.

Sadly the Great Dorset Steam Fair is cancelled again this year. 😟

We went to the one at Cirencester a couple of years ago when the ground was tinder dry. No marshalling and I could virtually touch the next door van. The reason there was so many vans, made worse when hordes of ‘honest travelling folk’ arrived was because free camping was on offer if you were exhibiting. Never seen so many tatty old bikes being ‘exhibited’
For balance the actual fair was massive and lots to see.
I thought we had burglars when woken by a loud bang which was someone blowing up their van trying to cook bacon at midnight!
We left the next day when the ‘honest travelling’ kids started beating up other children and some of their parents had ground bbqs on the dry straw grass.
We will give that one a miss if it’s advertised.

That must have been quite an experience to witness.

I showed stationary engines and had a static laundry equipment display for years at steam fairs and country shows. To old for all that lifting now
