I was going to replace the old Talbot chassis on my Autosleeper Talisman with a Merc Sprinter chassis cab but have been told that it wont work.
Why and would a sprinter been a good motorhome choice?

There are many reasons why it wont work.

And maybe as many as why it will.

I wish you luck if you go ahead at lest you whould know it was beter put together than any factory built unit.

Just think about the cost

If you go ahead a blog would be nice both for you and us

All the best

The body would have been designed to fit the Talbot chasis. So you are going to be very lucky if all the mounting line up. Think about the wheel base and the width of the different chasis.

Your caution about cost is well made which is why I am even going to the expense of renting similar vans to take detailed measurements but I feel confident because Autosleeper well designed the unit ti be adaptable for a series of 1970's vans.
