Having been caught speeding twice within the last 4 decades, I have now been caught twice within the last year.
(Both times by cameras and about 7mph over the limit)

Does anyone have a recommended device that will give an audible warning of a speed camera approaching ?

Years ago I had a AlerteGPS device, I've just found it and plugged it in for the first time in a decade, it still works but the data will be from before 2010.
It also has to be switched on each time you drive and takes several minutes to find the satellites, so only really good for long journeys.

There seems to be an app called RadarBot - Anyone used it ?

I'm really after something that will fire up on it's own and just give a warning if there is a camera about.

Best device is- look at the speedometer
this device is designed to tell you your speed

And - of course, obey the law
Observe the speed limit

( yes: just like the rest of us)

I find driving within the limit works well and with navigator always on you get a warning at 1mph over limit.
Breaking the law and trying to avoid penalties can end in embarrassment .

Do you have cruise control? If so,look at speed limit sign at side of the road and set your control to match it,bearing in mind that the sign shows the maximum speed you should be doing, not a target to exceed.
Most speed limits are set for safety reasons.

Waze - free navigation app for smartphone, although designed for cars so if you use it in your motorhome you might get show some unfeasibly narrow roads.

In practice I often use the speed limiter function, rather than cruise control, so I can keep eye on the road, rather than concentrating on the speedo, especially in the average speed camera areas that have become the latest wheeze.

In the tech race the speed cameras seem to be a step ahead of us motorists.

Our Garmin 760 camper satnav does give a warning when approaching a fixed speed camera. Many mobile speed cameras sites as well but with less precision so you need to stay alert and slow down.

The cruise control in the X290 helps in the roadworks, and there is a speed limiter setting too but I've only used that once.

Increasingly not, they are being set for environmental reasons to reduce emissions in polluted areas. :(

It's a bogus reason especially for the 20 mph zones because most ICE cars pollute less in higher gears, so logically the limit should be at least 36 mph to minimise air pollution.

I have a Road Angel which I use as an additional digital speedo And also shows (mostly accurately as it is regularly updated) the speed limits and delegated camera sites. The Volvo satnav has some warnings on it but not up to date.

Don’t bother with a laser detectors though. The copper that did me said that it takes less than half a second to fix and register your speed and then they keep the camera running with the recorded speed locked as you approach for ID purposes. He did say that they are also type approved up to almost a kilometre.

Saying “stick to the limit” is a very glib thing to say and like most on here, I do try to, but with something giving me advance warning of a possible camera, it helps to focus the mind and avoid a ticket. Touch wood…

I don’t agree, it’s like stating that staying within the gvw when driving in motorhome is glib as most on this forum would no doubt say. Both are breaking the law.
I do stick to limits and the only time I am at risk is if the Garmin data is out of date and doesn’t warn of exceeding a limit although I do not rely upon it.

You do realise that you just contradicted yourself there - sticking to limits in the first part and then it giving you a warning of exceeding the limit in the second part :whistle2:

never mind, not an issue - you drive the same as many of us, trying to stick to the limits but occasionally do not. That is precisely why I have used a Road Angel for years - for those times when the concentration is not what it should be

My two speeding tickets came fairly close together, not long after I changed my car so was not used to the better performance. But I will readily agree that it was actually failure to pay attention that actually got me "done".

Fair cop gov.

Radarbot it is useless. It still doesn’t show the village specs and I’ve put Ito. Their map twice. I deleted the pro app last week

The sat nav in my new Fiat drive's me mad constantly telling me "You are exceeding the speed limit"

Never had a speeding ticket though. :drinks:

When we are out in the Motorhome the Garmin warns of speed limits but the last two tickets I got were when I was driving managements Polo. The last time it 60 down to 30 for half a mile in the middle of no were.
If you don’t know an area it is very easy to miss the change in speed limits. In Lincolnshire a lot of signs are hidden by hedges that need trimming.

So I have the Garmin 890 sat nav that warns me, I also have a Snooper dash cam with built in speed camera alerts, but the one thing that I have that I really take notice of is my heads up display telling me my actual speed

that coupled with cruise control I think more or less has me covered for all eventualities.......... hopefully :ROFLMAO:

Illegal in France, not sure about the rest.
Correct speed camera warning devices are illegal. My Garmin devices, both bike and moho warn of dangerous road segments in France. These areas must be dangerous as they all seem to have a speed camera on them 😂😂.

Having just driven the length of France, with it’s constantly changing speed limits, I found that this does not work. Just a small hill and you pick up speed, way beyond the limit

Garmin, with lifetime Speed 📷 updates.

Y.ep and the speed limit goes up and down like a yoyo and not always to the next allowable speed on the Boston Skeggy road
