I have a Thetford Caprice Mk3 Cooker in my 11 year old Auto-sleeper Broadway. The spark ignition device has stopped working on the cooker, but the fridge ignition etc. all still work. I've checked the fuse in the Sergeant distribution box - it's OK. I checked that the 12v power in the van is on - it is. I put a voltmeter to the terminals at the back of the spring-loaded ignition switch - it shows 12.8v, but when I press it I don't get an ignition spark at the rings. Any ideas please, before I start stripping the cooker apart?

Thanks in anticipation, Dallyman

Check, if possible, that when the button is pushed, you get 12v across the ignition unit itself. That would prove that both the supply and earth connection are both OK. If still no spark then you need a new ignitor unit.

Is it a press button type piezo igniter? or even a battery powered?

A piezoelectric igniter gives one or maybe two sparks for each press of the button, and has a loud click each time. An electronic igniter gives out an uninterrupted series of sparks while the button is pressed, and the button click is only a normal switch sound. An electronic igniter can be powered either from a small battery or the 12V supply.
