I'm a newbie
Has anyone been successful in reducing the sound in the cab. If so what did you use and is it worth doing just the cab or would you advise fitting an engine blanket as well

Are we talking coach built or A class? I am sure both could benefit from some "noisekiller" products on any metal surfaces but possibly more to gain on coach built with the doors being a big speaker panel.

I wondered about carpet underlay, I have some buried in the garage somewhere if I haven't thrown it out. I'll give it a go, nothing to lose. Do later models suffer from engine noise? If I paid upwards of fifty grand would it have car qualities? Just in case I get the bug and splash out a few bob.

I used a combined heat insulation and sound deadener on the inside of the cab door skins.

The newer vans are less noisy and better marques are better insulated

Be aware that using anything like underlay is not a good idea , due to propensity to hold water . You need to use a closed cell type foam . Panel deadners can have a good effect as well , a cheap substitute for these are roof flashing (in rolls) from places like Wickes .
A good and reasonably priced supplier for sound control is here https://www.deadening.co.uk/ usual disclaimer , only as satisfied customer , they are very helpful for advice as well . Commercial vehicles are not usually produced with as much expenditure in noise control as passenger cars , and most motorhomes are based on these. You even get variations in passenger vehicles , I run a Fiat Sedici 4x4 , and my daughter has a Suzuki SX4 4Grip . They are same vehicle built in hungary by a Fiat / Suzuki joint venture . The Suzy has far more sound deadning than the Fiat !

I have never had a problem with the dense foam underlay holding water, but then never used it on a swift van or american RV which are prone to leaks
