On doing sorn it says enter 16 digit VIN well my VIN as 17 digit as anyone else VIN got 17 digit.

All VIN's are 17 digits as Brian says it will be the No. on the V5 they never ask for the VIN.

If you do it online they you to enter the 16 digits on the front of V11 reminder which I didn’t have so I enter my VIN number but as mine as 17 digits did not accept.
If you it on the phone they for the 9 digits on the front of your V5 that works.

No, they ask for the 16-digit reference from your V11 reminder. If you don't have a reminder, which you won't if you are voluntarily SORNing mid tax, you click on the link "I don't have the V11 reminder..." below the box and select to enter either the 11-digit document reference number from your V5 or the new keeper supplement in the box below.

Nowhere does it ask for your VIN. Nor should it, as anyone could SORN or tax your car (or legitimise a clone) without your consent if it did.

If gov.uk says it's taxed, then it's taxed. Presumably you printed the confirmation or selected the option to receive an email when you taxed it, so no problem.

When did you tax it and what date was the letter generated?

Bear in mind current postal delays. It's taking up to 2 weeks for us to receive locally posted mail at the moment. Two deliveries a week if we're lucky and I suspect letters may be sitting in quarantine at sorting offices at one or both ends of the chain, plus this:

Letters around Reading slow, posted two letters at same time, one to Sandhurst, arrived day two, One to Reading, arrived day seven, luck of the draw :cycle:

Covered by Watford sorting office. 15 days to receive a letter from Waltham Cross yesterday, two recorded delivery letters deposited at London sorting offices arrived after 7 and 11 days respectively. Had a delivery this moring, last week the only delivery was on Wednesday. Different streets in our village seem to be getting different "nominated" delivery days.

Well my “essential” copy of last week’s AutoExpress was 4 days late, when all this blows over I shall be writing a very stern letter to my MP, and asking her , in the style of a BBC journalist, whether he is ASHAMED of this delay (twice)
