Quick question, what's the best I can expect from a 175watt panel at midday toady in full sun? Mine seemed to be putting 5.7amps back into my batteries, is that about right?

Depends how discharged your battery is.
Our 150w panel makes over 9 amps in full sun when in bulk charge mode.

Midday today, after using my inverter for a few minutes to boil a kettle I was getting up to 8.2a out of my 140w panel via a votronic mppt regulator

My (not very reliable) meter was showing 85% remaining of my 220amps and had already been charging at a lower rate due to tree shadow for a couple of hours already.

It's in the constant voltage (absorption) stage then. The charging current steadily decreases until the charger decides the battery is full.
It's telling you nothing about your solar.

I have a meter attached to the Votronic MPPT controller showing volts and current. (charging 120 Ah Lithium with 95% SoC at the time)

It showed 5.7 amps from 2x100watt panels in today's slightly hazy sun. Which confirms my view that the 100watt panels put on by the dealer were not the best available. (But, they do work so Hey-Ho)

Is that a built in panel meter or have you coupled something up yourself

This sort of thing. (2" x 1" x1")

Not that one exactly as the shunt is not needed to measure 10 amps or so and my current shows nicely in blue.

It sits on top of the Votronic MPPT controller.which is on a top cupboard wall (well away from the batteries where the dealer wired the original PWM controllers)
