So that's why Benidorm is popular.

I've always given Benidorm a miss, I think I'll have to reconsider.

I went for the first time 2 years ago, but I stayed mostly in the Old Town so clearly missed all the fun.

I did manage to catch a couple of scantily dressed ladies dancing outside a bar but I wasn’t allowed to stop for a beer :(

Quite tame really, thinking they are living a past life. Get drunk ,vomit, square up, urinate in a shop doorway, vomit, go to bed ,vomit, lie in bed moaning and groaning till 2 pm,vomit, feel ratshit for the next couple of days.

YEA!! MATE! had a great holiday got bladdered every day!!

We always avoided Benidorm until some friends asked us over for a week in December 2016. It was a totally different place without the usual plonkers it's known for. Since then we have driven over and stayed 3 months over the winter.
Lovely place and the old town is beautiful with all the surrounding areas just as inviting. There's loads of eateries and watering holes but we aren't drinkers. It'll not please everyone but it is warm and reasonably dry.

In winter the place is far nicer in summer you get hoards of young kids arriving Thursday and leaving Tuesday on Stag and hen do's
if you don't go to certain parts of town where beers 1€ a pint and shots are free but everything else is expensive the morons of the world think they are big to drink themselves stupid for a week and give the world such a bad idea of Benidorm

You can watch some seriously talented singers, comedians, hypnotists and dancers every night for free and eat some of the best food you can find in Spain
And even get an English Breakfast if you must

Was there as a teenager in the 1970s on the first family package type holiday. After a couple of days the rest of the week for us all was spent holed up in the "hotel" with projectile vomiting. Since then the very mention of Benidorm has made me shudder with terror. Last place I'd ever want to visit, and the image perpetuated by the media just confirms that I don't want to be within 100miles.

Don't be put off, It's just a couple of streets they report on in a huge resort. We love it ?

The press never let the truth get in the way of good story, It’s sensational reporting that sells papers
Not the truth , i don’t think I’ve ever been beni but that report would not put me off , prostitution is everywhere in Spain now run by the mafia , that’s why the police don’t try to stop it , the worst I seen was in Marbella

We went to Benidorm every winter when Terry was alive. We loved it, tribute acts every night, no drunks just a lot of silver surfers around lovely beaches, very cheap to eat and drink out. I took Andrew there earky last year, what a difference, lots of stag and hen parties, wouldn't want to go there in the height of summer but so different in the winter and much better temperature than the uk. I would spend the winter there again, no problem but i think Andrew had been put off the place.

I’ve watched “Bargain loving Brits in The sun”
That’s enough to put me off going anywhere near the place, ever...

That report in the Mirror confirms for me why I would want to visit everywhere else in the world first!!.

We always say the people that are most critical are the ones that have never been. Go see it with your own eyes, the press are full of negative crap.

We were first there about 10 years ago, when we had a great time. Went last year for Fiesta week in Nov. and it felt a lot more seedy and dangerous. Maybe it was the wrong time to visit or maybe we went in the wrong bars, but didn't like it. Can't see us going back.

I'm sure thats true and the press make the most of anything out of the ordinary. However what suits one person doesn't suit someone else we went to Haven (once!!!!!!) and Teneriffe (Los Gigantes). They reminded me of one of the working mens clubs my dad used to go to not our scene at all each to their own and I suspect that Benidorm might well be similar!!

We have visited Benidorm around 4 times and it does have a variety of things to offer.

The attraction for us was cheap short winter flight/apartment deals then hire a car and get out and around or use the train to visit different places along the coast, this was in the late 90's and early 00's.

A few years ago we returned with a caravan in November when it was still very warm and busy, never seen as much tattooed flesh that would have been better covered, on both sexes.
In fear of our lives from the innumerable mobility scooters!

OK slight exaggerations there and the old town is very good for tapas etc, we do not like crowded bars with 'entertainment' so large parts of Benidorm hold no attraction for us, I certainly could not envisage spending all winter or long periods there, doubt very much that we will ever visit again.

Having said that everybody is different and obviously many love the place, the only way to find out is visit and make your own mind up.

There are some lovely resorts in and around the Benidorm area besides Benidorm town itself. We love Altea, Albir, Javea and Calpe. Personally I enjoyed our stay in Benidorm and thankfully we did not encounter any problems or badly behaved people at all.

The badly behaved people are the ones that go in groups namely stag and hen parties, never the silver surfers, hic.

We loved it last winter, and have booked for this winter.

To wake up every day to blue skies and natter to your English neighbours (who were unknown Funsters Wools ;) and lived about 12 miles from us in the UK!), and Dutch neighbours (who obviously spoke perfect English), everyone in a happy mood, was lovely.

Added to that, lovely walks every day, tapas, (the only trouble there was creeping past the tapas bar that we had been welcomed in every day as family, when we wanted to try another one!) and places to visit made for a wonderful, sunny two months.

Not for everyone, but is for us!

If I do get there perhaps us boys could meet up for a lads night out and relive our youth, might give the drinking to excess bit a miss.:rofl::rofl:

Oh and we liked L'Alfàs del Pi too.

Calpe is just up the road. Just as pretty scenery, more authentic food (but you can still get an English breakfast if you need it) and much classier.

Been there too, like many, circa 1996-8, on a package short break with a hire car. We both enjoyed it largely but the Hotel was a bit noisy. When we took the R-V`s we stayed at Villajoyosa, or Altea. Having our own Toad, was an advantage. Other years we went elsewhere, and towards the end we where regulars at La Manga.

First holiday abroad in the early 70s. Rio Park Hotel which had a Legionnaires outbreak after we were back home.
In laws live in Moraira area so we have always for years driven past Benidorm.

The reputation of the place if you ignore the stupid British media is good their hotels have a 90% occupancy rate in July through to September most campsites are full.
The minority of British people that act like total morons gives Channel 5 and the red tops their fodder
