... on the A4 in Belgium, when a large HGV driver took exception to me overtaking. I'm driving a 3.3 ton plated Fiat pvc, just the normal 2.1 (or 2.05, can't remember) metres wide, 5.99 m long. The signs did show no HGV trucks in the overtaking lane, but the guy did not object to the parcel or workman's vans. Was I breaking a law? I use the RN10 in France and have not been fined. Or did he just not like me?

Just being awkward by the sound of it !

At the time I suddenly thought, oh no, perhaps the RN10 fines hadn't come through yet. Perhaps I'd get them from Belgium etc as well. Mind you, I was back in the overtaking lane later. Couldn't see that what I was doing was wrong. It just niggled me, have I got the wrong end of the stick. Thanks for the reassurance

He was probably French

Did the restrictions size mention a width limit? Can't say I've ever seen one away from the UK, where it's usually 6'6" or 2m.

The trouble is, it just shows a pic of a red truck and a car, no indication of the finer points. So all I can assume as it is the broad difference between a heavy truck and a smaller vehicle. Frankly, it worries me to be sandwiched between poids lourds. You can see the videos of the drivers cooking or watching videos while they are driving. I don't want to be the meat in the sandwich.

Further on at the next road restriction, a gravel lorry was actively stopping cars and lighter vehicles overtaking by travelling as outrider, pulling out into the overtaking lane and holding them back. It must be frustrating when your truck is your daily bread, but the fact is that 4 or 5 cars can 'nip' through, and be gone.

Wrong registration number methinks.

I'd like to do that, change the number on the rear with sticky tape. But I don't want to have the van crushed. Or was that not what you meant?
