SNOW CHAINS(A75)

Hi anyone know if there is likely to be any need to carry snow chains or anything similar while using the A75 in France during January.I know that some roads have this rule but not sure if the A75 is one of them. Thank's Martin

Had a look, no I wouldn't think the authorities would insist you had them!

Someone will probably have a differing opinion!

I'd say no - don't carry them.

They're bloody heavy and a bit messy when wet.
Put them in a locker and maybe on the tyres if it snows

We went over in the snow, the plough had been through but it was not good because of the ice, at that time we had a 7.5m front wheel drive with a scooter on the back.
Not a experience we repeated, always went down the west coast after that. Bob.

If there has been a Heavy Snow fall, the Police will not let you continue unless you have chains, for your /others safety

Of course you need snow chains, and I happen to have a set at our daughters in Norwich.

Thank's for the info but if you go down west coast how do you get over mountains in Spain or do you cut across France near the Spanish border ? We want to travel down the east coast of Spain and then onto Morocco.Any tips would be appreciated. I'm a bit slow with the typing!!! Martin

OP is about "Is it likely to be any need to carry snow chains on A75"
1) need? ... no one can answer, no one knows whether it will snow or not!
2) What does the law say: Nothing! If it snows and you become a danger for yourself and others , then you'll be stopped and ask to wait till it 's cleared.
Your options : you carry chains and may be won't need them or won't carry any and if heavy snow you'll miss at least a day of hols .... your choice!

If the weather was bad, I would go Bordeaux Toulouse Perpignan, if it was not so bad San Sebastian Pamplona Zaragoza then that depends where your heading.

Been over the San Sebastion/Zaragossa route many times during December/January and the road has always been clear of snow. Been plenty at the roadside

What's the difference between normal and winter tyres please....thinking of changing my van which has 4 season tyres. And van I'm interested in is I germany so would have to be driven home, does not. I believe in Germany winter tyres are regulation..so driving back could be a problermo
