Basically it stinks like foul drains.

Is there something I can add each time before use.
I've seen some sort of capsule that looks like a washing tablet thing but that would mean I have to take the cap off each time and it's a PIA to get to.
ideally I want something I can just dump down the sink each time.
I don't want to use bleach as it is not good for sores that have septic tanks or soak aways.

Anybody used something that makes it smell at least neutral or even slightly fragrant.

The grey waste usually smells worse than the toilet cassette I try not to store grey waste for more than a couple of days as any longer and it smells really bad, I usually just use a bucket and pour down a nearby drain. 😊👍

You could get laundry liquid and pour it down. It might make it smell better - I left a laundry pod in the sink and my kiddo dissolved it accidentally. You could smell it when I drained the tank. I try to empty often and it isn’t too bad. I’ve also used dishwasher tablets, but I’ve never really noticed mine be that bad. I’m careful not to put much food down it, though. I don’t drain pasta or potatoes down there, or empty whey or anything like that into it.

A litre of cheap coca cola when empty usually gets rid of the crud in the tank every now and again. Van needs to be driven to get the cola swirling about.

You can by tank cleanser from all camping shops. I put it down the sinks and the shower, gets rid of the smell instantly.

Put them in sink or shower with water.Wait till they dissolve. Only way I could do it as grey never had an accessible lid

Lidl bio washing liquid helps but nothing works as well as the Thetford waste tank cleaner.

I’ve just flushed mine out this morning with Almat washing machine cleaner, it fetched out what looked to be flakes. Which I’m assuming was lining the sides and the bottom of the tank👍

At the end of trip I place a Aerial 3 in 1 Bio wash Capsul in the sink fill it up with water once dissolved then let in to the waste tank, I do the same with the Theitford Loo tank and both are smelling like roses after a say or so

Fenwicks is always a good start for anything motorhome cleaning related.
They do a dedicated pipe and tank cleaner, I’ve used it a few times over the years and it works a treat.

Here‘s one of Bob Earnshaw‘s Videos.

Mr muscle sink unblocker works a treat pour down sink plug leave for 1 hour then flush with a couple of ltrs of hot water drive and the next empty will clear all crud don’t get it on the sink though

The clue to not getting a stinky waste tank is to avoid any kind of foodstuffs or liquids. This isn't always practical however so my solution is to try and use as much water as possible to flush it through and empty the tank as often as possible. Two days is usually fine but the longer you leave it I find the worse it gets. You must make your own choice, however, about where you drain it in/on to - but that's another thread!

I use a proprietary tank cleaner before and after our long trips - the cola trick doesn't seem to have any effect for me but maybe my tank isn't dirty enough? :roflmto:

Dissolve a dishwasher tablet in a gallon of hot water and drain it into the grey water tank. Go for a long drive and then release the ghastly liquid down a drain 🤢 👍

Yeah I've done the coke thing didn't do much. The tank is usually emptied before two days as we fill it from showers etc.
I'll try putting a bio tablet down after emptying. I really want something like a additive before using it rather than the flush out cleaners.

All I ever do is leave it open when not in use. Ventilation prevents any smell build-up.

Absolutely agree! The cheaper the better. Works every time. We put it down when going on fairly long journey and empty out when we arrive.

A squirt of bleach then 👍 it will be watered down a lot so won't be strong.

Always worry about bleach touching anything plastic since someone I know managed to melt their bath by cleaning with bleach!

I always think well it comes in a plastic bottle so it can't be that lethal 😂 our toilet gets loads in it and has done for over 5 years, miracle stuff ♥😍

I use a grey water tank cleaner put down all the plug holes and make sure you put the plugs in the shower plug holes
