Hi I have recently notice a bad smell of my fresh water, after washing dishes they stink of like a stagnant water smell. I refresh it all the. 7 years of living in my van and this is first. So I know the water is fresh and not smelling on putting it in. I have tried flushing it out with fairy liquid ( ok no laughing at me) does anybody have ideas of how to get my water fresh again? I can’t shower in my MotorHome any more. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like bacteria in the tank and no amount of detergent will kill it off.
You need a proper sanitiser/steriliser but the name escapes me.....Aqua something or other.
Someone will be along to help.
Don't use bleach as that can attack seals and the water boiler.

As a first step I'd drain the tank and pipes/ boiler fully and fill with mains water fully including all the pipes/ taps. Hopefully the chlorine in the water will control it a bit and I'd do it every 2 days a few times. I think the cleaning staff is aqua pura and I think we bought some 9 years ago when we got our first motorhome and never needed to use it.

A food grade citric acid mix is also a good safe steriliser, approximately 1 x level teaspoon per litre capacity. It is also safe for hot water tanks and acts as a descailer too, but in stronger measures.

As well as a sanitiser and descaler, once flushed out, it doesn't leave any odours or aftertaste, like some bleach or chlorine based product do.

Good luck.

If you are going to purge, sterilise, and flush your fresh water system, be sure to remove any replacement filters first, so as to prevent contamination of them, especially Nature Pure filters, or similar.
If no filters, then no problem. (y)

Jock. :)

Every third or fourth fill I drop four aqua tabs into the filling point and wash them into the tank with water.
