Does anyone have a simple tip to prevent the habitation door from slamming open in windy conditions? I have arthritis in my hands and just can't hold the blessed thing when the wind catches it. Have looked at gas strut stays but the door and frame seem a little too flimsy to attach one to.

Nope.
One of the reasons I've now gone for a PVC.
Sorry, I know that's not helpful, but just to let you know 'you're not alone'

I've used a long bungy cord from door handle and hooked it in rear wheel on previous vans.

I've done that to hold the door open, but when you just want to go out (or in) and re-close the door? Sometimes you just can't hold it in the wind. It broke the stay on ours and a 'stud' in the door caused a dent in the mh wall, the only blemish on the van when we sold it.

have you got room to fit an extra handle like this?

We had the same on our last motorhome, and the garage door clouts my head once too often. So I fitted these on the hab door and garage door problem solved. (y)
Got them off ebay and made of stainless steel. :D Bob.

on the inside of the door, gives you a bit more to hang on to. makes it easier to shut once inside as well. I suppose you could put one on the outside if that would help.

I think the OP means something to stop it slamming open as opposed to slamming shut. If there are no other options perhaps the OP might be able to fix a thick cord (so as to be comfortable to hold) to the inside door handle and hold this when opening the door with the other hand, thereby keeping some measure of control to stop the door swinging too far too fast

I bet that when you find a mechanism, say fitted to top of your door, your next question would be- how can I take the twist out of my door?

I've got visions of her being flung out of the door with the force now!

Seriously though, the above suggestion is the one I was going to make so you have a good grip with both hands, just make sure you brace yourself first in case the wind catches the door. (y)

I fyou can't hold it with both hands ... do you have false teeth? :D2

we bungy the door handle round the mirror housing in normal weather but if it was windy we would open and close as we used it. Had a bad door slamming experience on our Eriba cararvan...didn't do damage but could have.
