Sky announced they are to introduce roaming fee of £2 per day in Europe from 3rd May.

So much for my plan in building up a data piggy bank before travelling.

Need to come up with a different solution now.

I was toying with moving to Sky or Tesco Mobile as my Vodafone contract was up, I decided on Tesco (O2 network), hope they don't follow the route of others, O2 seem to be doing a big advertising campaign stating that they don't intend to introduce a roaming fee

£2.00 a day isn't that bad.

From the 3rd of May, Roaming Passport Plus will reduce from £6 to £2, lasting for 24 hours.

EU and EEA destinations (excluding the Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man) and UAE will now be added to the list of Roaming Passport Plus destinations, so it will cost £2 for 24 hours to access your UK data, calls and texts plan across some of your favourite holiday spots around the world.
And if you run out of data when roaming, you can still roll your Sky Piggybank data, just like you would do in the UK.
From 3rd May, Roaming Passport plus locations include: the USA, Canada, Australia (Cocos islands, Christmas islands), New Zealand, South Africa, Turkey (Northern Cyprus), UAE, EU including Switzerland and the EEA. Hong Kong, Qatar & Thailand will now be charged the “rest of the world" rate.

If I’m travelling in the EU, will I be charged multiple times a day when moving between countries?
  • No. an individual 24-hour pass can be used across multiple European destinations, so if you’re travelling across country borders within the 24-hour period you’ll only be charged once.
Channel Islands and Isle of Man
From 3rd May data usage, calls and texts to and from the Isle of Man and Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey and Ascension Island), will be included as part of your UK allowance.

Republic of Ireland
You will still be able to roam in the Republic of Ireland at no extra cost, but International calls and texts charges from the UK to the Republic of Ireland will still apply.

Sky said that just a month ago as I’d upped my data to build a piggy bank.

It is if you’re away for up to 90 days

We are Virgin media O2. 25gb per month max in EU. But no extra payment at the moment.

I'm about to order a Tescomobile SIM so no doubt they'll introduce roaming charges next week
