does anyone have a rough idea how much it costs to site a van in Spain for a year ?

somewhere around the Alicante region say

The permanent vans in Beni pay about €3500 - €4000 pa + electric.
The lowest Touring rate on Villasol is €15.5 a day, that is the 180 day rate. Decide where you want to be, then a few emails to the sites may get you a better rate.

If its a British registered van, won't the vehicle's length of stay be a problem?

Why not ask Spanish site owners ?
Erm, because they can get the answer here

Friends pay over £4000 a year at La Manga, and like many others are trying to sell the van which has been there for several years.

As has been mentioned, it could be a problem to leave a UK-registered camper / motorhome in Spain, if you want to use it on the road again. As I understand, for such a vehicle, the maximum period allowed to temporarily import is 6 months in any period of 12. (Unlike British people, which - post Brexit - is 90 days in any 180).

However, if you want to site a caravan, then I'm assuming that's quite different and should be OK - notwithstanding the 90 days in 180 for actually staying in it.

Oh and if you steer clear of Beni, and perhaps find a site slightly inland, but still near Alicante, you might get the rates a bit lower.

Thanks all
Was thinking of putting a caravan on a site for the family to use with the grand kids, still keeping the motorhome for touring Europe though. Would be nice to have a van over there for long weekend breaks too...... just thinking out loud

Last time I paid for an annual pitch in Benidorm was 4 years ago and for a large American travel trailer with slideouts and 4kw electric per day on a fully serviced pitch cost 4800 Euros per year.

There is an acsi site we stayed on at L'estartit. A few brits were leaving caravans there and returning a few times a year. A guy would take the van off to a compound and then site it for them when they returned. It cost them £200 a year. Its common practice in that area and there are loads of compounds available to choose from. Something similar is on offer in other parts of Spain.

Much cheaper to rent an apartment which could be as little as 300€ pcm off season price....and depending on location. We have friends on here who have followed this route...makes a nice change from being on sites....

That's exactly what happens on the site we have a static on in France. Lots of French people do it and so does one English family. The site owner brings them out of storage and puts them on a plot ready for the guests arrival.

I was about to say that.

I guess so....👍we have friends who winter in Spain in an apartment having seen the light after caravanning for 20 years...Ferry, Own car to get about in..change location at affordable prices, camping is no longer a cheap option..

Storage's the way to go since Brexit. We left our 30ft fiver in France for 1 Euro per day last September and came home with the truck. We then went out with the truck in July and continued up to the Mosel where we are now. I could not think about towing it back up north including fuel, ferry and tolls for 1 Euro per day storage fees.

There's a site on the outskirts of Santa Pola, about ten miles south of Alicante, on the Elche road that might be worth checking out. Used to have an apartment in the area so that's how I know of it.
