Is there still a forum or group for single/widowed/divorced motorhomers? I am finding it difficult motorhoming on my own being a 70 yr old widowed female.

Hi Pat
There is a group of female funsters but I’m not sure where to find them at the moment. @Debs might be able to help.

Have you been to any rallies? Have a look on the rallies link above and there might be one on soon that you can join in with. I’m sure they will make you welcome even if there are lots of couples. In my experience the blokes gather around in one place and the women in another. It’s just better that way. ........ so you won’t feel left out if you are on your own.

I am male but started MHoming as single just short of 70.

What are your concerns? Are they female related, as in being molested?

Or are the concerns about technical problems.

The first ones might be better answered by females, because it can be a mixture of real and perceived risks.

The second one can be answered by anyone. There are skilled and unskilled MH owners. One MH couple I know are both precision engineers. Others are both mechanically illiterate.

You need to tell us your worries - even men can help on some of them.

It's 'Black Friday Weekend' so they will all be out looking for bargain broomsticks.

(A couple of years ago I joined a 'Grab-a-Granny' website for two months but got nowhere, mainly because I have a m/h.
One lady said she certainly didn't intend to spend her holidays in a shed). :(

A lady I know is a member of one called ...single camping caravan and motorhomers..

Hello! There are quite of few of us ladies who are solo motorhomers and often meet up at rallies etc.

You can send me a message (click on my name under my picture and start a conversation) if you want to chat about specifics :-)

Hi Geoff

I don't have any concerns about being molested, etc. nor do I have any technical problems. My problem is that since being widowed 9 years ago (when we had a caravan) I have joined all the loners clubs but find them very cliquey. I now have a motorhome and take my son on short fishing holidays, etc. but what I would really like is to hook up to someone who owns their own motorhome and perhaps go travelling and visiting different places in this country. Obviously we would have to have some things in common but that could be explored. I have a little dog who is my companion but if I want to visit let's say Bath, I can't leave her in the motorhome or tie her up outside a shop or even a loo for fear that she would be stolen. I find it almost impossible and anyway who wants to visit places on their todd - two's company. Surely I can't be the only one in this situation. I live in the New Forest so could meet up with anyone within a reasonable distance. I really envy some of my aquaintances who tell me that they have just been to Wales or Scotland or somewhere because I have spent many a lonely day on my own because there is no one to share the experience. I am not looking for a partner but a friend. I am 70 years young and reasonably fit but can't walk miles due to a back injury. I am reasonably intelligent and love playing backgammon or board games of any description. I am passionate about gardening but am able to garden less these days but still like to visit gardens, the Garden House near Tavistock is my favourite. If there is anyone out there looking for a motorhoming buddy please get in touch.

Pat.

I think going along to a rally or 2 would help to get to know other Funsters. A variety of locations and themes every year.
I can't drive a motorhome any longer but if you're ever in South Devon, I'd be happy to meet up. Plenty of National Trust places to visit around here ( I live a few miles from Greenway, Agatha Christie's home) and beaches to exercise your dog.

Hi Pat and Poppy. I fulltimed solo for over 3 years and always steered well clear of lone motorhomer groups - far scarier than any Fun meet. ;) From day one I just joined in with everyone at Fun rallies - you soon make friends. :)

I also have a dog but was always ok about leaving her in the van for a short while so I could do other things - but I know that with some dogs that just doesn’t work.

Now this was what caught my eye. I, too, love board games - my current favourite is Grand Austria Hotel. There used to be a small boardgame group on here - but I think it disappeared a while back, maybe when the forums changed to different software? I even once organised a boardgame meet at a pub in the Midlands - we parked up in the pub car park for the weekend, played lots of different board games in their conservatory and enjoyed a pub meal in the evening. (y)

I have a good Funster friend who travels solo with a dog, and who also loves board games, so I will draw her attention to your thread.

I also hope to maybe meet up with you myself at a Fun rally. We will be going to the Newbury Motorhome Show in May. :)

Thank you Maz. I hope to go to the Newbury Motorhome show in May as it is not too far away and I am also booked to go to the East Sussex Steam rally in June. Everyone is saying that the Fun rallies are really friendly so maybe after I go to my first one I will feel more relaxed. I would love it if your boardgame friend got in touch.

Thank you Hollyberry. I lived in Devon for 9 years until my husband died and I had to head back here to be closer to family. It was the best 9 years of my life. I love Devon. I took my son to Dartmouth and did the river boat thing but never got to see Greenway. I am recovering from a spinal op at the moment and have taken the van off the road until April but would love to get in touch after that.

Pat

Thanks for post No. 10 fleshing out the bones of your original request.

I think we are different in that in my 2 years of solo MHoming I did not feel the need to seek other MHomers.

Even on the odd night on a campsite I did not socialise much.

I did visit many friends in houses and did get chatting to people in pubs, but that was enough for me.

So maybe I cannot help much.

Geoff

but we're all different aren't we and that's what's so great about owning a motorhome, it's so easy to tailor it to your own needs:). Having this forum is great, you have the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. I love it & dread to think what life would have been like for me these last couple of years.

@Pat and Poppy sorry that you've not had a good experience with other singles groups, it could be that they appeared cliquey as folks were catching up with each other.....that can happen sometimes I feel, purely because you've run into someone you last saw 2 or 3 years previously! As a solo it does take a bit of a deep breath to join in where all the others are couples, it's not always easy is it:(.

Have you signed up for a few rallies? There are the big shows (Newbury, P'boro, Chester, Stratford, Lincoln etc) and then the smaller meets. Usually a few of us solos around......and it's always easier to get chatting when you have a dog!

Good luck and hope to see you in a field somewhere.

@Pat and Poppy I am the friend that @maz mentioned!

I'd love to meet up with you once you get your van back on the road. I live in Bristol and regularly go away for a couple of nights. We could easily meet up half way between us sometime. I camp on my own with my dog Jessie. I too love board games plus I have a copy of Grand Austria Hotel if you're intrigued!

I also would definitely recommend the Newbury show. It's an interesting show with great entertainment.

Hi Maz. I would love to meet up with you next year. I plan to get the van back on the road about March/April depending on the weather! I am definitely going to go to the Newbury show so may see you there. Look forward to it. In the meantime I will have to look up Grand Austria Hotel. Pat

Sorry, got confused, new to this website. You are Catspyjamas, a friend of @maz. Sorry.

It is in the inbox at the top of the page, or should be. that's using a lap top don't know if it is elsewhere if using a tablet or phone. I'm not a solo, but have been and do join some of the meets with the singles. Might be worth putting an area where you are nearest big town perhaps, makes it easier to meet up perhaps fr a coffeee while you are waiting to get your van back on the road.

Hi you will find many singles in our little forum. Lol I am male and although I don't go to many rallies ad I like my own company most of the time, I spend a lot of time in France and tour Britain as often as possible, I meet many like-minded and lovely people everywhere. However I usually go to the Newbury rally as its near my home.. Please come along you won't find us clique we can insult anyone. Lol

Hi, when you book to go to .rally at one of the shows don't forget to click on the club's that you are camping with motorhome Fun so you are with the other funsters, also when you book on a rally put it on watched thread so you can keep up to date with what is happening, also other zingls ladies will be aware you are going
As Sue said at the top of your page you will see .box with numbers and conversation on it there you will find your PM's.
Best wishes for a quick recovery after your operation.
