L3H4 crafter.

I couldn’t find any conversions that were flexible enough for my needs.

Old PVC which I converted and ran for 5 years had a fixed double bed in the back with 'garage' underneath it.

Bench seat behind driver's seat which looked out of the sliding door.

Kitchen unit ran from the bed across half of the sliding door area.

Converted the cab to have swivel seats, but we never used them, and a walk through which is pretty much a 'must have' for me now.

MWB Sprinter (so 6m ish)

Current PVC (very much in the early stages of conversion) is going to be similar but different.

Front already converted to single driver and passenger seat to have the walk through, but not bothering with swivels.

Considering a 'hard' bulkhead and door rather than curtain. This should allow an extra bit of 'wall' onto which stuff can be attached.

Moving back from there, the plan is to have the sink / kitchen countertop behind the driver's seat leading to a larger bench seat stretching out to the back doors.

Kitchen hob will still be half way across the sliding door, but will also have some more countertop space before joining another bench seat stretching to the back doors.

Bed will be a double running front to back (rather than side to side) and will drop down from the ceiling on top of the bench seats at the back.

Last van was rubbish for 'sitting' because there was no legroom and the twin bench seat was just too cramped.

Fine if you were lounging in bed, but otherwise no real 'comfortable' place to be.

I learned that you really don't need as much stuff as my original design allowed for, and that it's much better to have that weight low down rather than in overhead cupboards.

I also learned to be brutal in my choice of materials to be as minimal as possible in terms of weight.

Last van had 9mm ply walls all round... No need. 4-5mm caravan wallboards this time around.

I'm also going for 20 x 20 aluminium extrusion instead of rubbish B&Q timber. Not really that much more expensive but much more dimensionally stable and less prone to temperature and humidity as a result.

It's also much more modular, so If I want to change things around it's easier to do when you're just unbolting something and moving it up or down rather than screwing / painting / filling old screw holes etc.

Might go for a thicker profile for the overhead cupboards for extra rigidity / strenght. Haven't really decided yet.

It is a lovely build, one I've known about for a while and in no small part an inspiration for what I'm planning for mine with some level of modular furniture.

I'll never build it to that standard of fit and finish, but I very much like it!

Sorry, for some unknown reason, I can't publish pictures from my phone BUT my, multi award winning, MURVI, (Morello) which stands for Multi, Utility, Recreational, Vehicle, Industrial, (I'm told)

Is a PVC type vehicle that, by swivelling the bed/settee, can be transformed into a seatbelted 7 seater minibus.

Have a look at the MURVI website. 👍

You need to decide priorities, fixed bed & loads of storage under, or more useable day living space, make up beds and less storage.
Our Globecar Campscout layout works brilliantly for us, but some others would want more “lounge” space.
