Show us the Free Aires

Donaghadee is a small seaside town in Northern Ireland. If you drive towards the lighthouse pier the road bears right, just before the pier. About 150yds down that road is a car park. that everyone uses. It has a workshop in the corner where they are refurbishing the old life boat. It may have a sign, no overnight parking but overnight parking is very much tolerated, as you can no longer stay at the official Aire 10mins drive away at the commons. The commons has full services available 10 min drive away.

There is a memorial just up the road here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wormhoudt_massacre which is worthy of a read if in the area

#uptodate

We have our first Irish aire, our 2nd English aire, a couple turned from blue to grey.

I am home now, so cant believe I will adding any til around the New year, but will be updating this and other maps as and when or if they come to fruition.

The time has come to stop adding free aires to my map.

It now has to be the responsibility of the poster to add the free aires to the free aires map already available to all of us on MHF.

I will transfer over all 33 pages of free aires onto the MHF map, if you add all your future aires posted on here to the MHF map.

I just did one and it took me 20 seconds, I will be doing the same with the 88 pages of "Photo of your van camping last night" thread.

I will post an "idiots guide" as to how to add your post to the map later this morning.

But the map would be better served belonging to MHF rather than me and is only visible to subscribers.

My map will be taken down (not visible) after I have transferred all the information (as it will be on MHF map)

I ve taken a random post (because it has the co ordinates on it)

So you make your post on here with the photo just like this (or similar)
1758958217298.webp

First job is to highlight and copy the yellow co ordinates (Co ordinates are very important as you may struggle to locate the place) In order to find co ordinates go to google maps and find the place
These co ordinates show up as here

1758958419042.webp

But selecting the aparcamento autocaravanas link gives us this

1758958523201.webp

Copy these co ordinates and go here on MHF

1758958604735.webp

For this thread select Free aires but you may want to add one in a different category

1758958669175.webp

Click add aire

1758958758548.webp

Now you paste in your co ordinates, then hover the mouse over the blue area in the 1st photo and click "Copy link" in the pop up and paste that into the blue "Text area"

1758959099173.webp

Click save.

Thats all there is to it.

Once you have done one, you dont need the aide memoire idiots guide

Any issues ask on this thread rather sending me a message as others might read the issue and answer their question

Could someone check if my idiots guide to adding a place onto the MHF map works please.
No need to actually click save, just go through the motions to make sure it is correct

suavecarve I've added the two that I posted on this thread, but they don't seem to be showing up on the map. Do they need approving or something?

Yep, and they're on the list but not the map:

Has anyone else tried adding one?

I ve just taken a look and cant see anything obvious.

The post has been done properly. You have added the co ordinates. It appears at the bottom. It does not appear on the free aires map (where you have placed it) nor the full map

The last two free ones I’ve stayed at I didn’t take a photo of our van but here they are …

1) Riaño in the Picos de Europa - the official motorhome area in town, by the reservoir. No views to speak of from the area - this one was taken on the way into the town. Area is quite cramped, a Morello was parked across a couple of places then about 6 vans, each between 2 trees, and a few along rough land next to the sports centre - they had more space and slightly better views over the reservoir.

2) Ribadesella, we stayed in the gravel car park on the opposite side of the road from the 5 allocated spaces. The car park is divided in 2 - half is for cars (height limit) and the half further away from town is for high vehicles. Peaceful night - no train noise - not sure if they still run. Lovely harbour and restaurants 20 mins downhill.

Nope, doesn't work for me.
Have you actually clicked on the word Maps to open it on a new page (rather than just opening the drop down bit in the side bar)?

At first I thought it wasnt working too, but it seems the Free Aires bit is only available on the actual page, not in the side bar.

Good point.

After clicking "Maps"

You then have an option of viewing the "Free aires map" OR the "Show us where you parked map" OR the other 2 options OR "View whole map" which is all the maps together

I m currently working on the ""Where did you park last night map" and have uploaded 127 so far today in between Ryder cup, Rugby, football etc

Former campsite, now free parking and services. 4 grass bays facing a small lake (possibly some hardstanding areas around the edges if the ground is soft). Services to the side of the old shower block.

Fair to medium notice being given.

I have finished the "Photo of where I parked my van last night thread so there are 908 items to view on there

I have transferred some of these (the appropriate ones) onto the "Pub Stops" map (34 of them) (I thought Weinguts and Domaines needed to go in here as well)

And am now in the process of moving over the whole map created on here onto the MHF site where only subscribers can see it.

This decision was made some time ago and not after the barbed comment made by someone who wants everything for nothing.

I will be deleting my map, (the one you currently have access to) unless someone can give me a good reason as to why not.

At the rate I am going, and knowing what I ll be up to, I wouldnt expect the map to be in existence in 48 hours, but everything is viewable here

If you want this new map to increase, you have to add your own and there will be a video aide memoire coming out soon so I would encourage and urge you to add them.

I don’t blame you it struck me as a lot of work.
