I had been thinking of of creating a "How to"

The link to the map has been put on here several times so bookmark this https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1jiXgJZM9nl6SynkjTjIUoeviwhthBoI&usp=sharing
No, you cant add a place to this yourself, but that means you can misadvertently take one away either, or put it in the wrong place. If you want one added, just add some photos to this thread with the location, or how I can find it and I add the link.

Once you are in the map (google map) you can click any of the icons and 95% have a google link (some dont possess a google link) and you will see see this if clicking #393

The highlighted pink part is the link that will take you straight back to MHF and the post that caused the entry

The blue highlight are the co ordinates to put into your sat nav

The yellow part "View in google maps" opens the google map and looks like this (for this aire)

1754751901821.webp

You can now click below the red arrow to change this to a satellite view or add cycle routes to be visible (look in the top left for green lines) and these can appear on normal map view or satellite pictures.

The blue arrow allows you to see the street view where teh google car has taken photos from the road previously. You can drag and drop (hold the mouse over the yellow man in the bottom right hand corner and depress the left button and hold it in, a load of blue lines turn up on the map along the roads so place the man over the bit of road you want to see

1754752256755.webp

And if you go the yellow highlight in the top leftish corner you can read reviews that have been left on google by anyone (just like S4s and P4N etc) which will take you to their reviews, their marks out of 5 and their photos, this particular aire has 32 reviews (S4s has 18 reviews P4N has 5)

1754752393208.webp

The blue icons dont have a MHF review but do contain a link to google reviews etc

Using the "Street view" on the maps gives you the ability to see the entry to the aire if you so wish

The car park in the town has free spaces and grey water and fresh available. We stayed here when we went to see Andrea Bocelli, it is his home town.

suavecarve - earlier in this thread you put some photos up of an aire, with the word 'Castes' below them. Can see what might be a lake.

Er, is it actually Gastes ?

I couldnt find it on the map, probably because it doesnt exist. I have had to have a right crawl through everything to try to find the name of the place as the journal map I did has disappeared, and I marked it as Castes.

Eventually located it, it is Cestas just below Bordeaux and now has been added to the map.

I remembered that Minxy had been there and saw a pet bunny rabbit !

Thank you

There are many discussions about free aires in France so lets see some that you've visited. Please tell us where they are.

This is St Loup sur Thouet, there's a small town with a bar, a couple of restaurants and a small Vival shop. The aire has an outdoor launderette too.
I can't see that on my map. Would you share a bit more info please?

I love all these locations but some are quite difficult to find on the map
A what three words or Google location link would be really useful to locate them easily

I used W3W regularly for work in directing Emergency Services to incidents, probably at least once a day since its inception.

Ergonomically, it is a lot longer to locate the places if using it in this instance, but it is an extremely useful tool.

If you open the map (by clicking here) https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1jiXgJZM9nl6SynkjTjIUoeviwhthBoI&usp=sharing (then putting in bookmarks or favourites for ease of access for future) all you have to do is search for the town "St Loup sur Thouet" within that map and the exact location is the grey icon with a star. Click that and you get the google and MHF links.

W3W, in this instance, needs translating from one page to another and then back again before getting to any links.

Should you prefer to search for the location whilst not on the attached map. I have found the quickest way to find them is to search "St Loup sur Thouet aire" and it generally comes up immediately. If the resting place is in Germany try wohnmobilestellplatz instead of aire, if Spain try camping car or autocaravan, italy try sosta,

It generally only takes me about 15-20 seconds to locate the aire on the map, create the link and copy the post into the map for all to see.
