Getting better
I know that many people are not travelling due to Covid-19, but I’m wondering if, when you do, there may be a need for care cover for someone at home?

For example, if you care for a parent or parents who have care needs, you might like a carer to cover for your time way, usually for a minimum of a week or more? Care could be live-in, or alternatively, space permitting, the carer could sleep in their motorhome on the property, with a call system in place, if help is required during the night. During the day, normal care needs would be provided. Could also cover help with a garden and pets, getting shopping etc.

At this stage, just seeing if there may be such a need. This enquiry has been approved by Jim.

An observation and I have a DBS cert and administered.
Do not put all your faith in them, it only means someone has not been caught. Empathy and referencing with care and sensitivity is a route to consider.
I feel there is a need and good luck to you

Thanks. Yes, written and contactable references, DBS, qualifications, liability insurance, first aid qualification etc will all be up to date and provided.

Are you proposing to charge or exchange for free pitch? If charging how will you differ from services already out there?

I might be missing something here, but having been through this with mum, respite care in a good care home always worked out best for us

DBS only valid short term tho’

Not clear to me either exactly what is proposed that is different from commercial/professional care services already available.

Are you a "one-man band"? I have always understood that carers were required to have 2hours per day free from responsibilities: if so, what would you do?

How would you go shopping whilst still providing care? (Supermarket deliveries I guess?)

What alternative provision would you offer if you took ill? Would the cared-for person be left high and dry or would you obtain a stand-in? IF you had a minor complaint (cold?) would you keep working in order to fulfill your contract, despite putting your client at risk ?

I think that I would prefer a locally-sourced commercial operation - Gordon

Many thanks for all your thoughts, much appreciated. Nothing definite at this stage just sounding out opinions.

We hired a free lance carer who visited my mother in law in her residential care home. This lady provided regular visits once a week when we were away in the van (France for a couple of months) initially. She sat and chatted with mum, did her nails, got any bits of shopping mum wanted and generally did what we would do. This worked out so well that we continued to pay for this service on a weekly basis when we got back. The carer developed a really good relationship with mum who really enjoyed her visits and was very upset when we got back from holiday 😃 and the visits stopped 🙂. This carer provided a very flexible service for elderly people which met their individual needs, wherever they lived and she was excellent. I think there is definitely a gap in the care market for this sort of care, subject to the appropriate safety checks of course. Care for the elderly is not just about the basic needs of everyday living, it's also about what gives them a quality lifestyle. Mum's care home was excellent but this free lance carer gave mum a little bit more on top and improved her quality of life enormously. We were very grateful to her. We knew she was a good un when she and her partner entered the world of motorhoming a few months after starting to work with mum 🙂 They bought a Rollerteam Pegaso 🙂 as they're first ever van and they're totally hooked 🙂 So long answer to a short question, yes there is a need for a good quality care service for people like us who need someone they can trust to care for their elderly loved ones on the occasions we're not able and when the state or private agencies can't.

??
recommendation is every 3 years although there is no fixed time period but many companies require anything from 6 months to a couple of years for renewing.
If you live outside the UK you require also one from the country in which you are resident, complete with Hague Apostille, & here in Spain they have now implemented the ECRIS system whereby applying for a spanish 'Antecedentes Penal' ( Criminal records check) means that they also have to contact the country of you nationality to ensure they hold no new records & also means you are getting 2 or the price of 1.
