Hi All,
Curiosity provoked me to discover the mileage that I have done since I bought my van on 01.06.19. The van was secondhand bought from Tyne Valley, they assured me that the van was serviced, presumably that means oil and filter and a stamp in the book!!
The question is , should I get the van serviced or will the oil and filter be OK until October when I usually put the van on SORN.
Best Wishes
Chris

 errr, so let us in to your discovery. What mileage have you done, (or must it remain a secret)?

Hi All,
the mileage in a year is 2217 miles , do I service or not

You can Join the Fiat site and get an online account where all your service records can be kept. https://www.fiatcamper.com/en/home

when we brought our new MoHo from TyneValley they failed to register it the head of sales had no idea How to register the MoHo so the warranty including break down was not invoked. I eventually made contact with Fiat Proffesional contact centre who sorted it out for me So don’t be surprised if the service you have had is not logged with Fiat. Register your MoHo on that Fiat site and Use the number on the page I posted to contact Fiat sure they will help you.

With only those few miles since the last service I wouldn't. Oils and filters don't deteriorate unused but a cam belt has an age limitation whether used or not.
Mine's in my drive so I keep tabs on the tyres and battery.
(I'm an (historical) time-served auto mechanic and been a hobby restorer/maintainer of vehicles for 40 years so on the basis of 'The cobbler's child is worst shod' don't take my word for it). ;)
Probably the best answer will come from your dealer, maybe.

Oil & filter should do it. Most garages are still servicing and repairing in my area of Durham so I would think they will be in the rest of the country.

Oooh The old do I change it before laying up or after.
If it was me I would dip the oil smell it feel it i.e. roll it round your thumb and index finger.
If it's not silky smooth and smells right change it.
At the cost of it in the grand skeam of things it quite cheap.
I'm in the change it before you lay it up.
That way if you have a nice day/weekend you can go out to play.
But don't forget the other fluids four years and over all need changing.
Well that's just me better to be safe than sat at the side of the road sorry 😎

What’s a dipstick?..

If it was serviced last year as a minimum I would change the oil, its the oil that keeps your MoHo, Car going and a small price to pay.

😳
This is very true but brake fluid makes it easier to stop 😁 and change gear if it's a manual.
Auto gearboxs are sealed for life but still change the oil as a converter is not cheap.
And coolant has inhibitor to stop corrosion within the engine and maintains a lower temperature for longer while running.
As said four years and over 😜 Not sure how old your van is.

Every 2 years or 20,000 miles is the recommended interval unless you use it in severe conditions, I do the every 2years thing, never gonna put 20k on it in that time, they use 5/30 synthetic oil, modern oils don't degrade these days (again, unless used in severe conditions) so changing once a year is really a waste of your money but it's up to you! Other fluids however have a time interval & should really be changed to keep things in tip top order, brake/clutch fluid etc!

Modern oils are good for a minimum 10,000 CLICKS, anything less than that is money down the drain. Same goes for the Filter.

Like wizball says 2 years or 20,000 miles and you are correct about the brake fluid and if I had been hurtling down a mountain pass maybe, ( I have cooked the brake fluid on a few laps around Silverstone in a BMW) however all my vehicles have the engine oil changed every year its the heart beat of your vehicle some consider it a waste but never had any issues with my engines 😉

Indeed but its my money and happy to change the oil even after limited milage its cheaper than engine parts 🤓

So tell me what engine parts will knacker out, from oil in 10,000clicks/

The engine is pretty bullet proof to be fair, even cambelts that I've seen come off after 10yrs have been fine but then again some aren't, again modern materials used make them more reliable these days but this is one thing that shouldn't be missed :shake: worse thing for them is inactivity, low miles do more damage to them than high but all good for the 5 year time interval!

very 2 years or 20,000 miles is the recommended interval
Actually its 2 years or 45,000 km (28,000 miles) 2 years is OK for us as we only do about 9,000 a year.

Only if its been serviced by a Fiat dealer, I always use an independent.

Given that TyneValley had o idea how to register a new Fiat vehicle they are possibly not a Fiat service centre . I have not said that independents are not value for money. and again I just have the oil changed every year.

Thanks to you all for your replies. Stay safe and hopefully we will be out and about very soon.

Tynevalley do not do cab servicing only habitation. All cab servicing and M.O.Ts are done at a local garage.

Yes, I found that out by chance, it is a garage in Stanley.

That would go some way to explain how the head of sales did not understand the process or registering a new vehicle with Fiat.

A click is a kilometre
I thought a click was an AmericanIsem not an English term and miles is the standard reference on odometers within the UK
