I am the biggest FLT going but it’s about being considerate.

Running past Wiseman’s Bridge beach today and I saw two motorhomes parked side ways on. One taking up eight car spaces and the other five spaces.

One was a hire MH and the other private.

I had a chat with the owners of the private van. There reason for parking as such was their campsite was three miles away!

I also spoke to the hire van owners on the beach because their van had completely blocked of the rescue buoy for the beach users.

P.S I am not usually grumpy 😂

No idea where this place is, or, the length of the bays or the vehicle...... looking at the V.W. next door, if the M/ Home was to park in a bay then I recon he would be pilloried for closing off half the road !!!!!

Looking on satellite view there are loads of spaces just down the road where they could park sensibly.

I'm surprised they didn't point out that parking sideways as opposed to lengthways would have been dangerous as they would be sticking out into the road and that they thought it was ok as there are not marked spaces. Not condoning their parking though, they would have been better to find somewhere that wouldn't take up so much room, they must have realised car drivers would have been annoyed and think them selfish.

We have a favourite, small, remote, reservoir spot near us. It's traditionally been used by fishermen and a few of us local motorhomers, but other motorhomers have found it and publicised it.

The last time we went there were six vans/motorhomes there, escaping the busy coast. All well and good but two (not SP registered, not sayi g where from but not F, NL, P, UK) motorhomes parked together had all their chairs and tables and washing out. Still not so bad, but they collected wood to make a fire.

Martin, politely told them that they couldn't do that. Not only is it a fire hazard in a dry region, but it was banned anyway. Their response was we don't care. If we get fined, we'll pay it and leave. They probably won't ever go there again, and so don't care, and possibly neither will we because the area is now being patrolled by the medio ambiente (forest rangers) and motorhomes are being told they cant stay.

We've not been back there yet, but we might try in the autumn. Martin's fishing rods will be in evidence as our argument 😂

Of course , silly me... I was trying to find something ruder to start with, but also singular, not plural!!
But thank you, I was feeling really stupid!

Sadly this is the truth, a fixed fine is little deterrent.
It sounds like I'm a Dinosaur but we need to get back to penalties which encourages respecting the law.
Earnings related fines that hurt. Confiscation & destruction of their personal property.
Confiscation of ID card/passport so they simply cannot travel...

I don’t understand the excuse . They parked like selfish idiots because the campsite was 3 miles away ? Was this the one and only place to park . Well done for confronting them and putting their picture up .

I’m sure that there was a thread on here a couple of weeks ago where someone was saying that they had parked illegally but were happy to pay the fine ☹️

And lots of contributors supported their actions.

Ok, it was to enable a family event which otherwise would have been a problem. BUT if you want draconian punishments, who is going to be responsible for determining the exceptions?

You stick one of these in the middle of the windscreen that don’t peel off easy.

Have you got this as a printable document, I would use it regularly. The number of times I have seen Motorhomes parking sideways across 3 or 4 spaces. Guaranteed to get non Motorhomers backs up and it only fuels the pressures to close car parks to Motorhomers🥴

The locals are concerned about the campers pissing by the lake, where the locals walk their dogs to crap there instead….🤷🏼‍♂️

Well maybe. But some local dog walkers (local is the key word here) may be responsible picker uppers!

Next we'll be seeing posts from outraged FLTers bemoaning the fact that the local council has installed height barriers. Why do councils hate motorhomes? Just read the article and check out the OP and you'll see why.
