Our PVC van was sitting in the strong sunshine today on the driveway, with the sun shining hard on the side with the fridge vents.
It's fitted with a Thetford N3142 3-way fridge and this was switched off and no EHU to the van currently. Inside the van, the sun had warmed the interior up to around 27C by mid-morning and out of idle curiosity I went in and checked the freezer compartment expecting it to be as warm as the rest of the van. To my surprise it was really quite cool - not freezing - but definitely well below ambient temperature with the freezer walls cold to the touch.
I assume that convection currents in the refrigerant were causing the fridge/freezer to cool itself down somewhat. Just wondered if this was a recognised phenomenon as I haven't seen anyone mention it before.

Do you have fridge vent fans fitted that come on automatically?

Nope. I've thought of fitting them, but the fridge does work really well in normal conditions. I'll be keeping an eye on it during the really hot weather I hope we will be getting.
