Kev and Ju have been investigating this. I think they have decided on a system but it won't be cheap. Over £4k for one.

It's not really a system suitable for your DIY enthusiast to fit unless you happen to have the gear for make off the ends on high pressure hydraulic lines.

You’re unlikely to get a secondhand system to fit your van as the hydraulic rams need to be the correct length to fit your van, as the distance from the chassis to the ground varies from one model to another.

Not got the van anymore. The system was useless and unreliable, the original owner had it fitted at great cost by a firm called Towtal.
The original invoice and booklets was with the paperwork, Italian made trash, finished up never using it. What a waste of 4 grand and that was over 10 years ago.
We use a much better system now, it's brilliant on this van. Total cost, nowt, someone gave us them.

Have a look at this system. Even the dog loves it.

Your Autotrail Apache started life with a payload of 740 kg.
Assuming you have not added any other extras, such as batteries, solar panels, pushbikes, table and chairs, clothes, food etc, and not to mention passengers, water and fuel, then adding E&P levelling will eat a 50kg lump off your payload and extract around £5k from your wallet.

We had EP on an earlier van and they are very good but if you haven’t got 4/5 grand to spare they are an expensive luxury that you can easily manage without.?

Trouble is they are that good people take them off their MH when they sell it and have it fitted on their next one like I did if it will fit which if it's a fiat chassis it should fit regardless of my make normally

I would like to see one close up as they seem to be very expensive for what they are.
I reckon that I could source all the parts needed for well under £1000 most mobile phones have tilt sensors in them, so with four small rams, one hydraulic pump, an electronic valve block and a little fabrication and sundries i'd be quid's in. (y)

I love it but wish I hadn't done it. The reason is the high weight with the brackets pipes and line it was 65Kg and when I suddenly realised I was coming to 70, it was one of the items that would had to go in an attempt to drop the weight. But the medical was fine so it stayed on. The van was still miles too heavy to have tried to get it below 3500kg so would have had to go
Also the price is rather a lot in one lump then the uprated springs added a load more money into the equation, ramps £30 levelling £5000.??????????

We no longer needed the levelling ramps or the jack for the van, so not having them onboard offset 17Kg against the E&P system for us.

They are the "dogs thingummies", BUT they take between 50 and 60 Kg OFF you payload. and cost from £3000-00 upwards!. I had them on my R-V`s where the extra weight 1) did`nt matter and 2) with a 2tonne payload It could cope. Most (not all) R-V`s come with them in my experience and the "Park, push button, and make tea/Open beer" effect is therapeutic. I would never however look to retrofit them. (DIY) as they need specialist equipment to make the Custom Hoses Etc; which would IMHO make the exercise costly.

Wonder the possibility of 4 jacks fixed to the chassis and an electric motor to each one ?
Must be lighter and cheaper to do.

Thats the Al-Ko HY4 essentially, you then just need to make sure that they deploy in pairs so that the chassis/body does not twist, I would certainly make sure that the van was out of any warranty that I valued before making my own system.

The jacks on our E&P and on other levelling systems have to operate in pairs at the same time to avoid twisting and damaging the chassis i.e. the two front jacks at the same time, or the two rear jacks at the same time, or the two jacks on one side or the other at the same time and it's the electronics that control which pair operate when to level the van, also on letting down the jacks the electronics control the jack to lower the van keeping the chassis square.
