Am I the only person wondering if the relaxation planned from 12 April regarding the use of accommodation that is not shared with others is also a description of a van/motorhome with all the facilities needed to remain independent? The minimum would appear to be a loo, cooking and washing up facilities and a bed; o5er niceties that motorhomes tend to have just make it more comfortable .

The campsites are open without facilities so a moho is perfect.

Some of us are also waiting for the CMC to announce when it will be permitted to re-open their toilet and shower blocks.

They did operate a Covid-secure system last year. I haven't heard of any cases of Covid infections that were caught while someone was staying on a campsite and using the shared facilities.

Yes. Most motorhomes (but not all) comply with the description and it is permitted to stay in one after the 12th April, provided Step 2 is declared on that date and the other restrictions are complied with.

Start with the basics. Is the van within 3 degrees of level? Is the control panel switched on? Is there any gas in your gas tank? Is the fuse intact? If you’re trying it on electric is the supply connected?

Please ignore the above. Some numpty is on the wrong thread🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Has the big clubs decreased their fees to take into account your only paying for a parking space with leccy...?
The pigs are fed and ready to fly. I'll be very surprised if they'll be giving anything away. They need there money machine operating fast after lockdown.

But how far can you travel to camp? Will it be “stay local”. I’ve not seen when travel restrictions are to be lifted.

We're booked into Jasmine on 17th, don't forsee any problems. It's just a couple of days to check the van over and see my Mum and maybe a few friends too.

Don't think so. Last year C&CC opened probably half their sites without facilities, only a few remained with facilities that you were discouraged from using if you had your own, and a number of sites remained fully closed. The only price reductions I noted were due to the VAT reduction for hospitality.

This year notably C&CC say they are going to re-open the Camping In The Forest sites (they were going to be opening last year and were taking bookings right up until they pulled the plug 24 hours before the UK's last summer lockdown ended). One, CITF site Roundhill in the New Forest would normally have pre-fab type toilet / shower blocks (they have to dismantle and remove from site over the winter months). They are stating they won't have the blocks there this year. Weekday mid May 2 person one night price is just over £19. Stay at Denny Wood, which doesn't have toilet blocks is just over £12 a night. Guess where I'd be booking.

Though they have maintained the site network and paid their staff for a year with a huge reduction in income.

Regardless of the wording, there is No Legislation in Force on 12th April to constrict your travel to 'Local' In fact that piece of Legislation changes tomorrow night at midnight (BST) This was stated, here in the South West by an A.C.C. direct to camera.

Like I've said before, 'Should not' is not the same as 'Must Not'. On 29th March it changes to should not.

The lower VAT rate still applies (until March 2022, I think). The way this reduction works is the pitch fees stated on the CMC website when you book include 20% VAT, and are reduced when 5% VAT is applied when you arrive and pay at reception.

So the customer pays more for that...? For less service...?

my local pub does a cracking Sunday roast for a tenner, or did when it was open last year, when I go there next month and my plate turns up with a bit of pork, one roast potato, peas and a spoon of gravy and i say where’s the rest of it for 12 quid and he says well your paying for the last 3 months....😳 I wouldn’t be going back there... would you...?

Well obviously they could close lots of the sites

Or make some staff redundant
That’s business I’m afraid.... I liked going to my local Debenhams but it closed, there weren’t too many people saying we will pay extra for you to stay open...🤔

I’m not having a pop at you but do you see where I’m coming from... the big clubs think they have a monopoly on it, if they closed a site I’m pretty sure someone will buy it and improve it and probably charge less to get the customers in..

I have a feeling that this pandemic and its results will put people off investing in the leisure industry from pubs to campsites

I see your point.. but am I bovered? No... we mainly use the C&CC Temporary Holiday Sites, with usually just water and waste on site, we have our own facilities on board so don't begrudge the £10 or £12 pounds a night to stay in some very nice places.

Definitely not. My business has suffered during the crisis but I'm not increasingly prices. The next few month's will show how these companies deliver customer service. My loyal customers don't deserve to be treated like cash cows.
Just don't give them any business, simple.

Last year we were on our favourite site without facilities open. A guy with a camper was using the outside dog shower and he had a porta potty in his van. That could be classed as self contained I suppose.

It would I guess.....but from what I am hearing even the outdoor dog showers are not allowed to be open as they are communal!

I'm off to the sunny Peak District in my van on 12th for the night. I have my own bed, loo, cooker and water etc. Taking all the food I need, so will not even need to venture to the shops. As far as I'm concerned I'm "self contained".

If you being serious I think maybe worth looking at it a different way.

Businesses have struggled, many have closed, many will still close as they cant recover. Sometimes its better to look at how you can help rather than what you can gain, short term gain could mean lots of others long term loss.

and some people are just tight as cramp and think only for themselves.
Comparing the high street that has been dying for years with major competition to CMC is not a direct comparison.
And we arent saying pay more to stay open, Im saying course Ill still pay my fees and not ask for refunds, as I want you to thrive and continue for my benefit. One of the major clubs has been giving free night stays in some cases too I think.

Looking for a saving of what....A FIVER ? cmon, reaaaly.

With the C&CC I could stay on site with my doblo and a toilet tent, however it has no heating so am taking the Laika.
Doblo has a sink fridge running water and soon to have an onboard loo, fine for just me having a break.

Not the Bron Y Wendon in North Wales, it has just changed hand 3 months ago for an eye watering sum, and he has a rammed book all through the year already due to lock down easing soon, his next year bookings are also higher than usual

The guy in the dog shower was certainly public. The only saving being he kept his trollies on.
