Has anyone done this?
We are thinking of doing it at the beginning of November
(our MH is an 8m Autotrail)
looking for some suggestions/ideas
And recommendations for campsites please

If your looking at campsites you may struggle as a number close late October \ eraly Novemeber, eg C&MC sites at New England Bay and Galrieston and Mossyard commercial site.
Might be better thinking about wild camping \ parking \ pub stops.

You’ll be fine in your van as not to many single track roads, as Gellyneck said you might struggle in places for sites but loads of wild camping places.
Just watch out for the locals as they’re a weird bunch ??

We went last year to a rally In Portpatrick and like Castle Bay camping site parked over looking the castle and coast walking the path over to Portpatrick. Would do Mull of Galloway lighthouse on the way round. Am planning to hopefully do the full 300 next spring with a view to set down roots there. Lovely area :D2

There'll be no problem with the length of your van, even the single track roads (they're aren't that many) are quiet & easy to drive.

Camp sites as has already been quoted can be a tad thin on the ground but, not entirely absent.
Some of the CLs are open all year round, Mollance for example is just outside Castle Douglas which has a very agreeable toilet & shower block right next the pitches, there is also EHU & the owners are a lovely couple.
Brighouse bay commercial site is I think open all year round but is expensive is near Kirkcudbright, pronounced Kirk Coo Bree.

Wild camping spots abound, its a simple question of your choice of company, if you want wilderness on your own, its a breeze or pubs hotels etc are an excellent standby.
You'll find car parking a bit of a surprise, that is to say a very pleasant surprise, very few if any of the spots you stop at require payment & is easy.
The scenery is not perhaps as majestic as the highlands but, very often is stunning.

Just go for it, I guarantee that you'll want to come back, please don't tell too many folks about it, we want to keep it all to ourselves!!!
