Looking for a scooter/dual seat mbike for my motorhome garage. My garage door height is 40” (allowing me 1/2” or so wiggle room). Needs to have enough power for me and the First Lady on together just for nipping from sites to town. Any ideas on scooters etc with a height (mirrors off) of 40” or less?

At 40” you might be short on choice, if you were prepared to pull the suspension down a bit just to get it in you might open up your choice, our Honda SH125 is about 46” so you would struggle with that.

Hi Mike, a quick search will reveal a few options. 40" or 1015mm is quite tight but several bikes will fit. Honda do a couple of scooters, [ step throughs] or the Grom, Suzuki, van van. There are others.
Your van seems to come in two variants, check your payload, a scooter is going to take 120kg off that with some crash helmets and a back box.
Also check the weight allowance in the garage area, some are only 150kg!!.
What's the headroom once inside the garage area? You may be able to go taller than the door would suggest because of the ramp angle kicking the bar the height backwards and lower, but you need the headroom inside the van for when it levels out.
Take the van with you when you go to look!!.
Honda Wave 110i. Door size on van 1050, goes in easy.
Mike.

Check out the Suzuki Address 110cc it's a bit lighter and more powerful than the Honda Vision 110 and it has a kick start as back up 👌

The garage door itself is a tight 41” high so that would be a max height to get through it. Maybe too much of a difference to squeeze down that far.

Once inside the garage I’ve only got 41”. I’ve have a look at the Honda Wave and van van cheers. Don’t know about getting two of us on a Grom, they look a bit short in the seat

My guess would be that the Honda Vision and the Suzuki would be lower though.

Guess I’m going to have to go shopping with a tape measure😊

What's the height of the lip between bottom of door opening and floor of garage. Mine is 40mm, about 1.5 inches. If you front load, the front wheel will pass over the lip and drop to floor level. The handlebar (normally the most critical) will pass through the doorway giving you an extra 1.5 inches clearance (probably more with the angle of the ramp).

Only downside is, reversing out, where you need a bit of extra strength to negotiate the lip.

Generally, the small the wheel diameter will give you a scooter with the most reduced overall height.

I’ve only got about 20-25mm lip to garage floor so I’m really stuck with max height of 40-41”. Got a full licence so size of engine etc doesn’t matter too much. More height and weight.

No I think it's a full moped license crazy but probably true. I think they never considered mopeds being able to take 2 people when they set the group's
I have just purchased a electric moped to hang on the back of the motorhome, a Niu Mqi Gt and it has a 269 kg payload according to the brochure that's more then some Autotrails 😁

I think you are right actually as long as car test passed before 2001 it allows 50cc no L plates and pillion.

Your trusty steed awaits you,
<Broken link removed>
Or similar. How wide is the garage, one each? :giggle:

Doesn’t look like it’s got rear foot pegs 🤔 Might have a look at the Grom and see what the reviews are like😊👍

I compared to Grom to the Wave, and the wave was actually shorter. I bought our scooter before we had the van, but I rigged up some tape across the back door of the T5, and the scooter had to limbo under that tape height to be considered.
I think you're going to have to look at rear bike rack, mini bikes, or pedal assist battery bikes, oh or there's the trailer option, the side loading ones with the caster wheels look about the easiest option.

With category AM you are restricted to machines with max speed of 28mph, better buying a pair of roller skates!

Or A Piagio 3 wheeler

Characteristics which allow the Piaggio MP3 LT, in the 300 and 500 cc engine capacities, to be ridden at any age as long as the rider is a normal car driver's licence holder (Class B)*.

If they get any heavier you'll need an HGV licence though 😂

211kg for the 300
245kg for the 500

Comparatively :
Suzuki address 98kg
Honda Vision 103kg
Honda SH125 mode 113kg

I’ve looked at these as well. The problem is they say you can drive on full car license. Well you can if you want to pay a grand for insurance.
I found the bike I wanted agreed price etc but then phoned around and absolutely ridiculous prices. If I put I had bike license it was less than £200 I’ve been thinking again this week and still the same. Not worth the cost of insurance for me atm

That would come under your tricycle entitlement and I believe it depends on the track width on the front wheels as some are narrower than the tricycle rules allow.
