At the end of our current Spanish trip in late March a good friend wants to meet up in santander for a weekend.
We have never visited the City and I'm getting very little joy from camper contact, we usually just stay on a city's aire but there seems very little choice we are 8.2m long (we will be drinking so even though we have a scooter public transport or taxis will be utilised).
Does anyone have a brilliant idea that could solve our dilemma.
Also any ideas of what we can do in the City.

Think you will find that there is only one Campsite within reasonable distance of the centre of Santander where you may feel content with leaving your MoHo unattended. This, I have been advised, is only around 4 kilometres from the City Centre and there is a bus service. You mentioned late March for your visit, but it seems this campsite is only open April to October. We have never stayed there but plan to visit Santander during our upcoming visit to Spain, which is why I have been looking at possible options. Not sure if this may be helpful but, if you are not aware of this campsite, you may wish to have a look at http://www.cabomayor.com/ .

Perhaps arrange to meet elsewhere? Pamplona, Ribadesella , Haro or even Biarritz might solve the parking/aire probelm

We stayed on the aire down at the marina, you will need the scooter to get into town or a taxi. there is a bar and restaurant next door.

We’ve stayed at Lierganes which is close to Santander. It has a free aire with services at the railway station. Hourly trains to and from Santander, the journey is about 40 minutes and the last train back was around 10-11pm. It’s a few years since we stayed but it was safe and quiet and Lierganes had some nice buildings and restaurants. Plenty of room for larger motorhomes.

I'm hoping we will be able to get on the aire at the marina as its one of those citys that just isn't set up for motorhomes, the only trouble is it's a max of 48 hours. Go figure when so many come through to get to the rest of Spain.

We stayed at the Aire on Santander Marina in November 2021.Having stayed the on Aire on our way Portugal in September 2021 we were somewhat surprised to find the charge gone up had gone from €7 in September to £18 in December. We have a 6m panel van and the charge is now €1.5 per square metre. We paid the €18 as it was tipping with rain and getting dark and were given no receipt which is unusual .Whilst understanding costs will increase, we thought the increase too great and will not return. We have stayed there many times and it has always been busy. This time there was no one else there.
We looked around Santander and there is an official Aire at the top of the town.It looked well marked into bays and was motorhomes only. I will try and find a grid reference.

According to my Dutch book, which is a few years old (2015) but very good, there are good ones at San Sebastian & Bilbao but nothing at Santander.

This Aire is called Parque Las Llamas. It is shown on CamperContact but not on Search for Sites. There is no charge but I am not sure you would feel at ease leaving your MoHo unattended for several hours. I have not used it but friends with whom we tour have and they say there is a 10 minute or so walk to an elevator which takes you down the hillside to the City. We planned to stop over for a night here when we next sail to Santander, but have been warned that it can be very busy/full with folk stopping over en route to/from the Ferry.

It's going to be a combination of parque las llamas and the marina. Utilising the free one first then moving on Sunday to the marina.
