Has anyone stopped over at San Sebastian? There looks to be a couple of Aires in the city, if anyone has used either I would be grateful for any information. From the map I've seen they both look too far out to be within walking distance of the centre.

You can walk to the city from the university one, bikes are better though. It's mostly enclosed so no views and quite tight spaces and not many of them going from memory.

Yes been 2 or 3 times. Gets very busy and weekends worse, best to get there by midday.

Always been plenty of room when we have been there Jon, it doubles as a coach park for the University but there must be space for 20 vans I would have thought.

There is a water and dump point and more parking behind the camera,

Found it convenient for location. Pick your arrival time.
Walkable to front. You can always get a bus or cab back. As you walk to the coast, funicular railway on the left and town to the right. View from top of railway below.

We have been on that one when a French van raced the wrong way round the one way system to beat us to what it thought, wrongly, was the last space. But it’s perfectly walkable to the centre (and we don’t walk very far!) and quite a pleasant walk. If not, or it’s wet, the bus is pretty frequent.

We were at the university site last April and was very busy. Nice walk to old part of town.
Excellent bar/restaurant behind launderette across main road from site.

Stayed at the University one 2/3 times, half price in winter. The Town (also known as Donesta) is very interesting, Regency Era exclusive holiday resort with an adjacent old town on the hill that is worth exploring. It has the reputation of being one of the culinary centreso of Spain. If you want to eat out well in Spain this is the place to do it. Do your research first though.

Hi Claire,
The aire is a very easy walk to the city centre (which by the way is a fantastic place to visit), but as previously said, the aire is VERY tight to park in.
The approach makes it easy to get to - you can get some idea of that from this video I made when we stayed there in July 2015 (there is also more info on our blog page on 21/07/2015 here https://themotorhomeyears.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_26.html )

There is also an available motorhome parking overlooking the football stadium. Free and well used by locals. No services. Centre is about 40 minutes walk.

There is an emptying point down the bottom end under the flyover(y)(y)(y)

I’d completely agree with that - the Tourist Information in the centre sell a very useful guide which includes several pintxos (tapas) routes. Problem is, it’s very easy to eat (and drink) too much - but brilliant.

Had a motorbike holiday in spain spent a few days in San Sebastien If eating out try the menu of the day, but before 9pm when we were there we ordered from a reasonable pink menu half way through our meal menus were changed to blue, being the nosey mare i am I had to see what we were missing, only a 10Euro price hike. lovely place.

We love Donestia (as they call it in Basque) but we always stay at the ACSI site at Igueldo.

Lovely downhill cycle into town (not on the main road) and bring the bikes back on the bus that runs along the front and stops outside the campsite.

If you go follow the route on their website don't follow the sat nav............PM if you want anymore info
