The first time I went to Port Grimaud was almost 50 years ago to deliver mobile homes to Prairie de la Mer. An English guy by the name of Ronny Stamp had leased the beach site from the French MOD as it had previously been used for military training. There used to be a Les Routier on the opposite side of the D559 that we used to call "The fat mans", I never knew it as anything else. We used to park up there overnight before running home. There was none of the Little Venice that there is now, and you could park up anywhere along the D559 and many of the then hippies were always camped up there. Times change, but not always for the best .
