So took the plunge and bought a SafeFill bottle and have as instructed filled it to halfway, when can I fill it up to 80% capacity ( do I have to empty it ? ) and secondly the pigtail valve had worked loose after a 120 mile journey causing a slight leak when I turned the bottle valve open , is this normal ( has never happened on my usual Calor bottles ) cheers n thanx in advance.

After first partial fill you can then fill fully. No need to let it run fully empty first.
No issue with pigtail loosening on ours.

Check there is no muck \ split in the rubber grommet.

Where did you get the safe fill bottle from?

Just use some of the gas, you don't need to empty it. The partial fill at the start is because the new empty cylinder contains air. Once you use the cylinder the air is purged from the cylinder and the OPD valve will cut in at 80% fill. The pigtail/cylinder seal is metal on metal so should not work loose unless there is any contamination on the threads.

I have 2 X 10kg safefill bottles. Use standard propane pigtails that you tighten with a spanner. Never had any issues in 2 year with coming loose. Maybe just needs an extra bit of tightening. 👍

As above its first fill only, I wasn’t happy with the metal to metal contact, so bought another pair of pigtails with a SS flexible covering and a replaceable rubber nose ( came with spares) have refilled mine a few times now times on my current trip, only today at a shell garage near Split

Had my Safefill for 10 years, never had a loose connection and I have a hand tightened pigtail.

Make sure to tighten them to F.T. ........

There has been a bit of a shortage, some leisure outlets still have stock. Try LPG shop in Leicester I saw they had stock last week.
