We were packing the van this afternoon ready for the off (trip to Cornwall) and Elmo our wonderful Border Collie laid down and passed away peacefully in his Dad's arms. We had no warning, he was just coming up to his 13th Birthday and apart from slowing down a bit was fine. We knew we wouldn't have him forever but he really took us by surprise today. We couldn't face staying at home so we decided to still go away. We have many, many happy memories which we treasure. It's going to be very tough without him. His little friend Halle is going to miss him but she is also going to give us a lot of comfort.

So sad

Aaaah how sad. Sorry to read this. I too have a border collie thats nearing the end. Great dogs eh! Its hard to lose one.

I hope Halle gets extra love and affection , she will be wondering where he has gone.

No one can take your memories away and Elmo is now at peace.

Thinking of you all

So sorry for your loss, but what a great way for your beautiful dog to go, with joy in his heart and surrounded by the loving arms of his Dad. Go and enjoy your break knowing that your boy will be with you, both in spirit and in your hearts.

So sorry to hear of your loss, at least you have the comfort of knowing he didn't suffer. Feel for you as we had to say farewell to our oldest dog earlier in the year.

I'm very sorry for you. It's always so sad when they pass away. In the last 20 years we have lost 3 dogs, 4 cats and a horse. It never gets any easier. Much as we love all of our pets, it always seems worse when the dogs go. At least you will always have your happy memories. Nothing can ever take those away from you.

Heartfelt sympathy !!! We had tow wonderful border collies Logan the boy was 17 when he went followed two weeks later by his soulmate Meg...... to say it broke our hearts is a huge understatement !

It took 8 years before we decided to have another dog this time Noodle the Cockerpoo.

I understand how you feel but you must console yourselves in the knowledge you friend had a great home with you both .

Hope you feel better soon. !!!

Sad news for you indeed. We're still on tenterhooks with one of our boys, he took ill on holiday in Italy and after weeks of tests culminating in a bone marrow biopsy last week that's pointing towards autoimmune disease, apparently his body is attacking it's own red blood cells. Another blood test tomorrow will hopefully show that his new meds are working, fingers crossed.
