Tiny leak in ensuite resulted in plaster ceiling below coming down today  I know it's a first world problem and the plumber (arrived within a couple of hours of calling him) identified the problem and fixed the leak and given me the number of a good local plasterer to renew the ceiling when it's dried out. But I need to cheer up by thinking of our May/June hols. We like to use small campsites and intend to return to the Loire Valley.
We are familiar with the following sites - Gennes, Saumur, Azey-le Rideau, Chinon, Loches, Amboise. Does anyone know of other sites within easy walking distance of towns with a small choice of Cafés and food shops? I've Googled but not found anything that takes my interest.
Any suggestions to help brighten my day.

I think part of the fun is just exploring and seeing what you find, and it seldom disappoints in Loire.
I'm hoping to do similar in Dordogne this year, I've done a little research based around the BVoF book and my wish to kayak on the river and looking to find sites and aires nearby.
The options seem plentyful, so as usual, I'll just wing it and take what I find (y)
On the upside you found a plumber who turned out promptly, that's an achivement in itself.
Hope you have a better day tomorrow

There is a nice municipal site in Amboise I'le D'or about 5/10 minutes walk across the bridge into town. Good Restaurants, a chateau and an interesting Da Vinci House/Museum with some working prototypes of his models.

Like you, we have stayed at many Loire sites in the past so looked for new ones this year. We enjoyed our stay on the municipal site by the river bridge at Nevers. The town itself good to walk around and some exceptionally lovely modern stained glass windows in the church which was bombed at the time of the DDay invasion when allies needed to cut the bridge and main train line north to prevent German reinforcements coming up.
We also stayed by the river at Blois which has an impressive chateau and lovely small town.

I would also recommend Chaumont-sur-Loire. The gardens are worth a visit as well as the chateau.

You might also find inspiration on DBK ‘s thread when they travelled the Loire

Spent 3 weeks in Loire area last year, mostly Aires but 2 sites we visited which I’d go back to are

Municipal Chaumont-sur-Loire. Municipal site so a bit rough round the edges, park where you like etc. Site manager speaks English. Small town with beautiful chateau within easy walking distance.

Camping Le Port. Private site very well maintained right on the banks of the Cher. Stayed for 4 night we enjoyed it so much. Small village but great boulangerie just outside. No English spoken but very friendly, especially Scotty the site border collie. View from our pitch.

I loved the Huttopia site on a hill overlooking the Loire at Saumur. Decent bike ride into town and easy walks. If you pay a bit more and book ahead you get a view of the river down in the valley. This was taken from our pitch (but with a decent zoom)

Arrived at the Fresne sur Loire CCP site today. It’s closed for the winter, it seems, in spite of being advertised as open Jan-Dec. Closed means the barrier is up, and no electricity. However there is still a water tap and waste disposal. So that’s €10 towards our Saturday lunch.

I’ve never seen the Loire so full. No sand banks today. See the depth gauge in the attached photo, it’s almost disappeared. Indeed the whole of western France appears to be saturated.

Oh, and the Saturday lunch! The “Au Poisson d’Argent” just along the road was packed, but we just got a table and had an excellent 4-course lunch there.

That looks like half a road sign 🤣. Glad you are making the most of it despite the weather. We had snow at home today 🥶 followed by more incessant rain 🌧️🌧️🌧️

Hutopia Camping des Illes. Beaulieu-sur Dorgdogne. Campiste is on an island in the river. Access to a small, walled city with a 12th century church and several small cafés and restaurants. Been going there since 1990.

We stayed a couple of times at le Moulin Fort site
It within walking distance of the Château de Chenonceau
Just south of Tours.

The site is (or was, pre pandemic) owned by an English couple who bought is in a very run down state and then spent several years getting it to a decent standard.

Nice site at La Flèche, walking distance of town, ACSI and has a small swimming pool.

Most of the suggestions you have been given I would suggest have been around where you have been before.
How about venturing East and visiting Gien, Bonny sur Loire and Briare. Lovely, all of them.
