It’s a couple of weeks since I asked for advice about a leak coming from the main roof light. Lots of you gave advice and links about removing, cleaning and resealing it but we decided to cover it temporarily with double polythene and Gorilla Tape until we could get it looked at by someone who was more agile, experienced and less height phobic than either of us.

The temporary fix worked fine and we brought forward our Hab Service by a couple of weeks and the workshop had a look at the leak.

It wasn’t the seal that was leaking but the frame had developed a slight crack halfway along the side and that was the problem. We were given a price for a replacement but told it had been filled with fresh sealant and the guy who did it had done a similar medium term fix on his caravan 6 months ago and it was holding up well. The workshop owner said that there was no point replacing it at present, just see how it goes and get in touch if and when we want it replaced.
Have checked it and there is a similar, hairline crack in exactly the same place on the opposite side so we have taped that up too just in case and will carry tape and sealant with us now.
Looking at the weather for the next few days and the repair will get a good testing.😳

we are going to hold off replacing it for now as it’s an expensive repair, even if we just replace the frame.
We are in and out of the van every few days so it’s no bother to check it, but we will have it done before winter.

It could be an even more expensive repair if it creates damp.

I think id be off the mindset to remove and replace ASAP.

Very heavy rain yesterday evening so we checked the roof light and pleased to say there is no sign of a leak at all.👍🏻
