Hi everyone, it's Nick - Neville's (eldest) son!

Jim has very kindly gifted me a month's membership so I can respond to this thread.

Firstly, a massive 'thank you' from me and my brother (Owen) for all the kind words here - they very much mirror similar comments on the Jampot forum (which I know some of you also frequent).

To add a little context, Dad was being treated for Labyrinthitis at the end of last year (or so we thought) but it wasn't responding to treatment.

My wife (Karen) and I had a 2 month camper-based road-trip around New Zealand's South Island planned (our third long trip to the Land of the Long White Cloud). It was while we were there that further investigations were done on Dad, culminating in an 'urgent' MRI scan the result of which was a diagnosis on 9th January of terminal cancer (lung primary, metastasized to both auditory canals & both sides of the upper area of the spine) and him being told he had 'weeks not months' to 'put his affairs in order'...

We rushed home.

Just over seven weeks later, following a very rapid decline in health and after (we believe) watching Brighton beat Newcastle to go through to the next round of the FA Cup, he decided that was the 'final whistle' for him too.

Yesterday, 12 weeks to the day from the diagnosis, on what would have been his 80th birthday, we said our last goodbyes to him.

The sun shone, there were tears and laughs (a LOT of laughs) and the general consensus was that - while he would have objected to a ‘party’ being held in his honour - he would have LOVED it on the day!

A tribute page for him has been set up here: https://nevillebolding.muchloved.com/

Which includes:
If people wish to leave comments, pictures etc. on the tribute page we would be very happy for you to share them. There's also a link to donate to Raystede Animal shelter - where his 'partner in crime' Bobby (my brother's Westie) came from - should you wish to do so.

I note that someone mentioned:

"Every man has two deaths, when he is buried in the ground and the last time someone says his name"

In Dad's case I think that second 'death' will more likely be "...the last time someone refers to advice he gave online" - and as anything posted to the web is there forever, I guess he'll have achieved a kind of immortality... :giggle:

All the best in your travels Funsters!

JFDI - if you run out of money you can make more, but when you run out of time... it's 'game over'

Hugopotamus Nick , what great tribute to your Dad.

I firmly believe in the quote
mentioned:

"Every man has two deaths, when he is buried in the ground and the last time someone says his name"

My thoughts are with you and all of your family.
