Or any other make for that matter . Installed mine a few weeks back and the camera also covers the moHo . Work rather well - not brilliant as they are a little slow to load and the microphone isn’t great but I do notice that delivery people etc know they are being filmed.

worth a consideration I would say

Serious ( if it may seem odd ! ) question
We have 8 CCTV cameras that record all movement and can be accessed with my mobile phone.

With that in mind, would you still fit a Ring as well ?
( I have the chance of a freebie, but will not take it at the moment as it seems overkill )

This is what I see I go live to our Ring doorbell
It also records movements and stores them in the Cloud so they can be retrieved and viewed later. I set my scan too high, every car that went past set it off. Adjusted it remotely and no problem since

I love our ring doorbell, as I can talk to anyone that triggers the movement sensor from my phone, anywhere

I have never yet spoken to anyone on my Ring doorbell, they have always gone. It is far too slow to be of any direct use and if you try to watch the video of the person you missed that takes ages to be ready too. Still it is reassuring to have it there.

I did as i only use if for the convenience of being able to answer it when away, i dont use it for the cctv as i have one already on the drive and another 7 around the outside of the house in the garage etc etc. It's just convenient and the battery lasts a lot longer without using the camera (only when someone rings it).

+1 Mine suffers terrible lag too, when the bell is pressed till the notification on my phone....even if I’m in the house and on the same WiFi.

I have 200mb broad band and the ring reports it’s WiFi connection as RSSI -74 (shown as a green, good connection) as the doorbell is about 15ft from the router.

As such it’s no use as a door bell......and the dogs bark at the bloody advert which is constantly on the tv.

Ring blame everything apart from the device or their server.....but I have no problem with the 6 other brand ip cameras on the network connected by WiFi.

Have been wondering about one myself but lots of people have reported that they are being stolen. In theory you should have a record of who stole it (!) but that apparently isn't stopping the thieves.

Well for £100 including the internal ringer and installed in 20 mins it’s worth while . I can also scare the bejesus out of my wife when she takes the dogs out for a walk :-)

If it’s stolen its Mac ID gets deactivated after you report it, it cannot be reactivated on their server by a new user and ring will replace it free of charge....

Thanks, didn't know that. Might get one now (y)

As long as you have signed up to the payment package for the cloud storage. However you really need to have this or else you only get live notifications and cannot replay the event that triggered the motion detector.
I have one set up outside and one inside that I just switch on when we are out.

Hi Jaws...we too have cctv around the property for the motorhome, we also have the Ring door bell too. Reason being is that the Ring bell allows you to get a real good close up where as the cctv regardless of being on HD and very High quality recording...does not always show enough detail on close up! Like yours I am sure the cctv will let you know when the camera detects a moving object and so calls you or lets you know by text. The ring allows a really good close up image of who ever it may be....close to the door bell at that time.

Regards Kev

Worth getting IMHO.......plus I have a Neos smartcam in the ‘van linked to the home Wi-fi so I can see the miscreants driving away.......until it goes out of range, that is!

;)

Question.. does your one ring in the house like a normal door bell ?

On mine the camera outside sounds so the person at the door knows they’ve activated it and there’s a separate remote ‘chime’ that plugs into a socket In the house.....mine is now unplugged as the dogs hear the one from the front door.

"Ring doorbell" interesting info.

Mine too taken it off waste of time and money! Even with a please wait 30 seconds before buggering off sign, it is just to slow connecting with the phone, could be our broadband as we are still on land lines and not cable.

We have Ring Products including Doorbell, Spotlight Camera at rear plus Floodlight cam overlooking garage as well as an alarm. I can access all these remotely when triggered or when I just want to look at the house to check weather etc - I find little delay and really useful when postlady or delivery driver arrives at inconvenient time or when we are away. We do have superfast broadband so maybe that helps. You do have to desensitise to ensure cats, birds and even spiders dont trigger the cameras/lights.

We have a Ring Doorbell and find it to be reasonably reliable. I have had a number of remote conversations with the postman trying to deliver packages while we we were out. For Amazon deliveries they seem to sprint up to the door to drop the package and disappear faster than a Higgs boson so nothing will help much with that.

Another useful feature is that I have set it to give out a tinkling sound when someone walks near the house which can be heard from outside and could ward off Intruders and also we get a discreet warning of stuff being posted through the door and slightly before the dogs go crazy.

Slugs are the worst! Some of my cameras are at ground level (hedgehog watching) and every so often, a big, brown slug will slime it’s way onto the camera and proceed to obscure the view........and it’s a b*gger cleaning the lens afterwards!

Installed one last year and we are very impressed. The camera also covers our motorhome. We now have two of their external cameras too.

You do not need a subscription if you jsut want to use it as a door bell and to see who is at the door. But you do need a subscription if you want to save and look at the video. AFAIK you also need it in order to get the thefot cover as well.
Question.. does your one ring in the house like a normal door bell ?
Yes. The doorbell rings loud enough for you to hear it indoors. We already had a low voltage door bell running off a transformer. We used the supply to feed the Ring so no need to worry about the battery running out. And we also kept our existing bell inside so that still rings as well.

Love our ring doorbell we pay the small subscription well worth it for us . We have ours connected up to our Alexa . It's tells you when someone is approaching and when they ring the bell . We take our Alexa show with us in van whilst away works well on my mobile data most of the time . Just say Alexa show front door . You can have a conversation whilst away with anyone who rings the bell . We downloaded rapid ring app as well as it helps with the slight delay you may get . . We also have a small sign by bell stating there maybe a slight delay time we are in just wait patiently for 30 seconds for a reply if wanting to leave parcels etc. Works for us . During the good weather with windows and patio doors open Alexa set to load so we can hear her all around the property so can anyone else 😂
when away we get the same alert in van and on mobile phone . No brainer really for peace of mind for us . I did join the Alexa group on Facebook for help and advice on these matters and also the ring group . Any probs I just ask on there I've learnt such a lot and a lot of quick fixes so well worth joining. .
Before we had Alexa connected to the ring bell it wasn't really loud enough for me or Amanda being both deaf even with our hearing aids in ,Bill wired it to an electric chime . We also hard wired our ring saved us having to keep charging battery . Since connecting to Alexa show 8; that solved any probs for me not hearing it 😉👍
Kind regards Kate

Like Ambilkate, our Ring doorbell is connected to Alexa which works really well and covered in a number of rooms in the house. We set up similar in my mum’s house recently because she is hard of hearing (wont admit to for most of the time lol ). i can also access her Ring doorbell account to check up on the battery level etc. You can get a mains transformer which saves having to remember to charge the battery but you would need a socket nearby for this.

There have been a number of occasions when we have not been at home that we have used it to speak to whoever is at the door. Re deliveries, if we are expecting a non-fragile parcel, we have told the delivery person just to drop it over our back gate. Saves them having to come back.

There have been a couple of comical instances which have had us in stitches too 😂

We have a similar one (Not Ring). It does suffer from some "lag". but other than that is useful, especially as we have been getting a load of stuff delivered during lockdown. (y). It supplements the other CCTV around the house. As well as making the Motorhome potentially that bit safer.
