Getting Better
Going to the Camarque in a few weeks and intend to poodle down the east side of France along the Rhône and spend few more weeks around the Camarque.

Now I’ve plenty of places to see and stay along the west side of France but I don’t have much info for the east side, any tips and suggestions on what to visit and places to stay for along my route and destination would be very much appreciated...

Many thanks..

What is it you like to do ? Lakes rivers mountains beautiful villages ? Wild swimming, waterfalls stunning views ?
How many nights before the Camargue from Calais ? Gives me a rough idea of how many stops.
Balcony roads of any interest ?
You have the option of shooting through Belgium to Luxembourg and then either spending some time in the Alsace or Vosgues or shooting down to the Juras before the apparent haul to the Camargue.

Get back to me and there are plenty of options.

In the meantime, google the following
Colmar
Eguisheim
Langres
Route des cretes (vosgues)
Dole
Cascades du herrison
Lac du vouglans
Nantua
Chanaz
Seyssel
train de lardecehe
gorges de lardeche
Gorges de nesque
Mt Ventoux

That should keep you busy

All of the above..?

We’re going for 4-5 weeks in all and have no plans (as usual) but usually a destination..?

Thoughts are to run along the Rhône but branch off for interesting places..

In the meantime I will get on with googling your suggestions..??

Just noticed youre from cornwall. I make a presumption you are going from Calais ?

Dog ?

Nosey bugger arent i ?

Valensole, which is just to the east of the Rhône in Provence is the centre of a big lavender growing area. There are fields of it are on both sides of the road between Valensole and Manosque. This was taken on 24th June this year.

Sadly, it may now have all been harvested but worth checking if you are in this area.

Not a million miles away is the Ferme de la Condamine (CC12541) which has to be a contender for one of the best aires in France. Membership of France Passion is supposed to be required but we weren't when we stayed there. It is a lavender farm with a little shop. The fig chutney they sell is superb. They also sell honey from their own bees which work the lavender. Also of course every lavender based product you can imagine. :)

To visit the Camargue, we would head for Tournon-sur-Rhome and start our explorations there. Avignon is a must and, basic as it is, we'd stay at Bagatelle on the Ile-de-Barthalasse. From there, there is so much to see ... Arles & Nimes, of course, and one of our favourites, St Remy, following in the footsteps of Van Gogh. When he created his famous painting of the Alpilles, he never knew there was a huge Roman town underneath his feet. We absolutely adored Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and we rreally want to go back. We'll also visit Tarascon/Beaucaire and, one of these days, we'll get to Aigues-Mortes. Have a great time ...

Cluny looks good, Parrot Face but, like many campsites, they don't open until Easter. We need to get Boris to move Easter to a permanent date in mid-March!

We stayed in the small Aire in the actual town should be open all year.

Don't know your exact route, but if you find yourself in the region of Roanne, Port de Roanne sitecode 2232 on campercontact is quiet a good stop over. If you don't need services you can park in the car park which is only a few meters away. Or there is Aire de Loisirs du barrage , villrest site code 2162 also on campercontact.

Thanks everyone I looked at every suggestion, some a bit too far East but noted them for future reference, some I had already but made me look around them again and found new stuff..??

I’ll try and add some info and pictures along the way..?

Thanks Frankie, as I have recently found in the last few years that I have suffered from mozzie bites I’ll come prepared.... will there be many end of sept/oct..?

And we will get around to visiting you, promise....❤️

sept/oct..?

If the temperatures keep high , and (hopefully) with some rain , I'm afraid they will still be numerous! Last year we had to wait till it was really cold before we could feel safe. At my mum's , 10 minutes away from my place , she had to run to get into the swimming pool ... then keep hidden.... under the water...and just breathe now and then , and even though she got bitten on face neck shoulders ... terrible summer!!!
