Because I knew there was no immediate chance to use my recently acquired van I SORNed it straight away.
I've since tried to find out how much the road fund licence fee will be and I'm struggling. DVLAs website wouldnt/couldnt tell me and when I asked the previous owner they couldnt remember either.
