Hi

We recently purchased a Hymer Free 600 Campus on a Fiat Ducato chassis but the reversing camera needs more ambient light for a clearer picture. Can I simply add an LED spotlight "Recommendations Please" and wire it in to the reversing light? or is it far more technical than that..

Not really a technical vehicle person but willing to learn!

Thank you in advance for any information!

Does the camera not have IR LEDs to enable it to ‘see’ in darkness, or are they too dim?

Not sure, I don't think so - the only light I'm seeing is from the normal reverse light. I don't see any IR LED's around the camera itself..

The light being omitted is very very poor.

Ok, Obviously being a new vehicle it comes with default camera - Link to Original part.

The vehicle has a Xzent X-F270 system with built in monitor to view the camera feed.

I dont think Infra cameras are standard on most vans, but you could fit a bright LED DRL strip up high wired to existing reversing lights, or maybe better on a separate switch so as not to blind anyone behind to give more light if needed.
Something like this maybe, didn't realise they were so cheap, as they are very bright.
Cheaper than an IR camera as well. 🤞
Good luck.

Looking at the link the spec does not say it has an ir capability.

So maybe just fit an ir light source

Lightbar seems like a bright idea ::bigsmile:

Any recommendations and how I would connect it?

If it's a reversing light you can use white rather than infra red and you'll then get a colour image 👍

You could try replacing the reversing light bulbs with LED bulbs, make sure you get ones with ballast resistors built in so you don't bulb failure lights on the dash.

As Lenny HB suggested. I had to do this with our Ducato with Fiat built in Camera.

Although our reversing camera has descent infra red light, I don't like not having decent reversing lights on our van when reversing at night, so I rectified this with these 10 watt LED lights from Amazon on each side wired into the existing reversing lights.
They are not your usual cheap tat and are mounted on an aluminium base.
