Anyone done this to replace a standard Thetford cassette?
Is it possible?
Is it worth it?

Solution
If anyone is looking for a tank I found this company with a MASSIVE range of types and sizes of tanks.

90-100 litre tanks seem to be in the £110 price range and lead time of 2-3 weeks.

That is CAK Tanks online shop.

Think there so cheap because they must be getting loads of returns but we know the fix :giggler:😉
The really cheap ones have gone, limited number @ £15+ then a massive jump in cost 😳

Don't forget to fit a vent as it could be fun if the tank exploded. SOG do a black tank vent, another problem for you getting it up to the roof, she won't be happy if you vent at ground level.
Any reason not to fetch the breather pipe up behind the fridge/freezer/oven i.e. removing the fridge external grills as there is a void above the oven which gives access to the roof adjacent to the existing oven vent.

Sounds like a good idea, should keep it cool with the vents providing it's away from the fridge cooler.
If they get warm you can get condensation in the pipe and it gurgles so you have to get on the roof and blow down it.
Advisable not to suck.

Finally got to speak to the tank manufacturer, hope it will be ready to collect next week - then the fun starts 🤔.

Sounds like everywhere is very busy.

Collected the new black tank from Oldham today. 3 weeks from order but was told that at point of order due to his workload.

Well impressed - its black and rectangular and has 3 threaded holes. What more could I want 😂

Insulated the tank and built mounting frames to support it and bolt through the floor

Looks good - my black tank has 3 inch outlet so the issue is reducing that down to the size of the inlet on this pump.
Ordered mine with 1.25 inch so only a small mod needed

Bought a cheap non contact sensor and a pack of coloured LEDs.
Mocked up the tank for testing with a psu, sensor and a glass of water.

Ignore the political commentary 😂

A cheap way of adding sensors @ £6 and no tank drilling. May add a couple of these to alert at 1/2 and 3/4 full if they are reliable.

It works 😁

Work continues albeit slowly.

Got the top frame mounted and the support spreaders inside the floor storage.

Didn't think about how to reach the centre studs to tighten the nuts. Good job son no. 2 (extremely slim) turned up as no way could I get my upper body far enough in to reach.

Been a busy week or so trying to get this completed before I go for a full hip replacement next week.

Between hail, thunder and lightening and a bit of sun!

All pipe work is done.
Vent pipe now runs to the off side instead of behind the fridge as planned. Fitted an inspection point at lowest level to allow for any accumulated moisture to be drained if needed.

Came up through the wardrobes, past Alde reservoir behind front TV and through roof.

Diverted the existing grey tank after the valve to empty, into the black tank so it can be flushed through.

IMG_20210514_104543.jpg

The open pipe at extreme left is for the waste from toilet - still waiting for delivery - now predicted for June 🙄. Didn't want to commit pipework until I have the unit.

Emptying tank is dual option, gravity feed via remote electric valve (centre of photo with orange top) or via permanently mounted pump that is mounted at floor level (right hand side of photo) above the waste entry level height so no need for a valve (I hope) .

IMG_20210514_180910.jpg

All cabling is within flexi conduit, supported on threaded rod where needed, and rises through the underfloor storage and into the toilet compartment adjacent to the new fuse box.

The white pipe above is the existing vent from the Thetford cassette.

Now stuck until the macerator toilet arrives,😭

Trimmed off the excess on the mounting threaded rods, top and bottom and just waiting for some domed nuts for the storage area to tidy that off.

Shit deliveries - if you know what I mean.

Just been informed the DOMETIC delivery now pushed back to 6th August (leaving Germany) 😭

And I was expecting you to use some lame duck excuse like have a hip replacement for not finishing it.
But to rub salt in the wound

Spent a day completing the electrics for motorised valve and macerator expecting delivery of the DOMETIC this week. That all works but now partially obstructs removing the cassette which fortunately I didn't remove the existing wc so we can still use the facilities.

Better to be free than constipated 🙄

Have Dometic got their finger out then?
Should have it finished next week then, will you be calling all the neighbors round to help you fill it so you can test it?

Many UK sites don't have black disposal points anywhere near to where a motorhome could park up to empty a large tank so you'd be restricting where you could camp quite a bit.
It’s not a problem in such a situation a simple pipe fitting option is the answer, had it in my last three MH’s and never struggled.
