Has anyone had reinforced air suspension of a motorhome

Hi Jayne

I guess you mean air suspension as an addition to the standard steel springs, if so the answer is going to be yes lots have so is there something specific you wish to know?

Wow what a quick reply! Good Morning
Yes I have had a 2008 Fiat Ducato base motorhome from new and have recently had a motorbike rack fitted with a tow bar, the shop suggested that my suspension is looking tired so why not have Air suspension fitted, he said the cost would be around £600.00. After thinking about it (and saving up) I'd not like to go ahead but of course the fitters don't undertake this work anymore, so I'm shopping around but know nothing of the why's or wherefore so am asking the question.
I understand the benefits of stability and comfort, but have an inbuilt mistrust of garages...
Any advise would be gratefully recieved
Thank you
Jayne

We have uprated rear suspension on our van.

Do a search with “air assist“ which is what it tends to called on here.

Good morning and welcome 🤗

There are various levels of fit of air assist a basic kit can be £400 plus fitting, while a full fit with the ability to adjust from the drivers seat will be considerably more.

These are the controls for my rear air assist, so I can alter the system/ride height as I want, Very useful , and something I wouldn’t want to be without

Hi Jayne

Nobody sleeps on here  well not all at the same time anyway, good suggestion above but I don't think you can search for previous threads without being a paid up member, one question might be have you ever had the van weighed as hanging a bike out the back adds a lot of weight onto the rear axle and it could be overloaded, should have been done before the tow bar and bike rack though really:unsure:

I would go with what funflair has mentioned before spending any more on air suspension assist do a weigh of the axle weights to see what leeway if any that you have .

Just to add to the above advice, load the van in touring mode, I.e. as if you were about to leave for a trip and go to a weigh bridge and weight total van and both axles individually.
If your van is 3500kgs max your rear axle is likely to be max of 2000kgs.
If you need to go above that then there is a bit to think about including consider tyre loading
