Hi,
Have had the refillable bottles for a couple of years and only fill up maybe once a year.
But I can never remember if you fill up with the gas valves open or shut. I know not travel with the gas valves open.
Which is correct?
Cheers

If you have Truma secu motion fitted you can travel with gas on and that allows you to use the heating whilst travelling.?

Sorry but this is not off topic lots of vans are fitted with this system and you do not have to travel with gas off!
It’s all about information that’s what the forum is for??
yes hence my winky eyed smiley face.....

I try to always fill with the valves closed because of the small risk of liquid gas getting to the regulator, though I have been known to forget with so far no adverse effects.

I don't go near my bottles when filling. Just connect to the external fill point and let rip. Gaslow System.

We have refillable with no secumotion so travel with valve shut, therefore arrive at the forecourt with it always shut.

Should be shut in case the 80% fill protection fails and liquid passes through to the gas appliances. However as a double-check I watch the quantity being filled as I know how much it should take and would shut it off at that point.

Agreed, that is what the - very helpful - engineer at GasLow told me.

Thanks Guys,
For all the comments and input. Well vans packed leave Norfolk this morning, Portsmouth - Caen Tuesday and down to Malaga, where I will be doing the gas, as half full for 4 nights.Back the end of March, yippee. Incidentally the aluminium gas flow bottles, expensive at £650 4 years ago, nice firm in Yorkshire-Autogas.
Just need to find some nice safe aires en route.

In theory you can fill with the bottles turned on as Truma regulators have a max input pressure of 230 psi and pump pressure is up to 140 psi. but there is always a very slight chance of a pump being faulty and filling at much higher pressure. It's not worth the risk the regulator on my van is 200 quid, so I always turn off the bottles before filling.

Gaslow actually state in their instructions that the cylinder valve must be off as do Gasit ⚠️?

Does this apply to underslung tank I am of an age that crawling underneath to close the valve is very difficult:(

Most people with underslung tanks don't bother, 99% of the time probably OK.
You could fit an electric cut off valve that would also make it easy when using ferries.

just a point , when i intend to go a petrol station i always turn the fridge to battery so it dose not try to ignite the gas as it is an automatic 3 way fridge , i always turn the gas off when travelling and filling .

The gas normally wont ignite until 15mins after stopping in order to avoid this possible problem, still no harm in doing it manually as well.

What age is the fridge all AES fridges from around 2006 should have the 15 min delay.

The AES fridge will not try to ignite the gas until 15 minutes after you switch off the ignition specifically because of that problem.

Edit..... doh beaten again
