Hi all,

Have done a bit of digging myself and was going to purchase a refillable bottle kit 2nd hand but after reading that my local Morrison’s will not let me fill them only Safefill bottles.

So how do people get around filling other makes because my local as said above is Morrison’s and a bit stuck and don’t fancy paying loads out on one bottle might as well get them already filled from my local garage.

Thanks.

They don't even see most of them as the filler is situated on the outside of most motorhomes, people put them in lower skirts etc. Hence when you pull up to the Autogas pump the operator can't see to Gasit'Galslow etc bottles anyway.

Lots of threads and opinions to be found on this subject but as far as I know the only bottles that are classed as refillable are Gasit, Gaslow, Alugas and Safefill. These are the ones with a built in 80% cut off.

Thanks all but Morrison’s will only fill Safefill bottles but as above if I fit bottles I’m tempted to put the filling point lower down but I can’t see me getting away with that as my MoHo is diesel not petrol.

Since fitting an external filler point I have not been refused. If questioned just say its an underslung professionally fitted gas tank fitted when the motorhome was manufactured.

Gasit Gaslow are 100% legal and safe. Morrisons have a problem probably because people turn up trying to fill calor bottles on the forecourt.

Also just go to another garage.

Yeh but you can’t run tanks on a Diesel engine so I’m stuck in trying to pull the wool over someone’s eyes.

I fill my refillable bottle at Morrisons, just attach the UK adapter to the external filler point and attach the pump. Never once been asked what I was filling, I think that as long as it is a fitted filler point they are happy.

Me sounding dull here so once the kit is fitted I need another adaptor to fill it via filling point?

Gasit, Gaslow and Alugas are designed for permanent fitting. Safefill are the only portable refillable cylinders I have heard of.

Yes I know but I was worried about filling up at Morrison’s as they are my local supplier.

Are you sure you have the correct information. Most places are more lightly to refuse Safefill bottles than a proper installation.

Yes, there are 4 adaptors that will cover all European countries.

Have you actually tried and been refused?

???
New to this aswell. We downloaded an app show loads of lpg filling stations

Have an external filler. Never refused at Morrison’s, or elsewhere. Not being disrespectful but the assistants have not shown any interest in what I am doing, as long as they get they get paid. Generally they are just to busy to start inspecting gas installations in vans.

I have not experienced any problems filling my Alugas cylinder.

Since we had our refillable system installed we have never been refused. On the contrary the only attention we have received from the staff have been offers of help. One other thing, if you fill from a filling station it costs more as you pay vat as if it were automotive fuel. If you get it from a gas company it's charged as for heating/cooking - plus they won't refuse, why would they? Just use the apps :- 'MyLPG' or 'FillLPG' to find suppliers.

Would the filling point be an issue if it’s fitted the opposite side to the fuel filler, would that be a dead giveaway.

Have filled up both diesel and lpg at the same visit to our local Morrisons on three occasions!
Never been stopped or questions asked, lpg filler on same side as fuel and both easily visible from kiosk.
Last time I waited till guy in front had done exactly the same with is nag wagon so its clearly not an issue hereabouts!

Now, the gas cupboard is the opposite side to my diesel cap so I would need extra gas feed, is that going 5o be an issue?

We used to always fill up in Morrisons, Wrexham.. But about 2 months ago we were stopped. Our has an external filler. Haven’t had an issue for last 5 years. We now fill elsewhere.

In answer to above question, we had to go to two separate sides, as fuel and lpg are on opposite sides. Hubby used to get petrol, pay, then go to lpg.

Most if not all external fillers supplied in the UK have the UK bayonet fitting as standard, you only need to fit adaptors for overseas pumps.

Never been refused in UK, France, Germany, Spain or Portugal. Have often used Morrisons without any problems. Only refused once, and that was outside of Milan, but just headed further South in Italy and there were no further problems.

Is this a wind up ;)
our diesel is on one side our gas with an internal filler point on the other, have been refused gas twice in 9 years, both times at the same station in France. Not at morrisons as others are more easily accesible, but most are happy for us to fill with deisel or gas then move to the other pump before paying provided one is filling and the other is inside to pay.
Am more concerned that the cylinders you have bought are nearing their use by date.

50/50 on which filler you have, we have the small one so need an adaptor for the UK.

Only been refused twice, once in Portugal, a woman ran out shouting we don't fill bottles. I told her it was a tank and pointed at the filler she said OK and filled me.
Once in Italy (illegal to fill hab tanks ) second garage was OK, In Spain it is also illegal to fill hab tanks but never been refused.

We have a Gas it system that we have to open the Gas locker to Access. I always fill up at Morrison’s and have never been refused. I went through a similar dilemma before having it fitted but I am now glad that we did as we have saved a few quid with no problems what so ever.

I think you might be getting a bit paranoid about the whole gas thing here. relax, get your bottles fitted and if morrisons call the "Gas-tapo" on you just fill up elsewhere, you have a motorhome and its got wheels!

Hi .I too am considering Safefill as an option. However for the past 6 weeks since lookong both Safefill, and other suppliers seem permanently out of stock. Any ideas where I can get one ? Thanks

We have alugas and have never been refused (even at Morrisons). Had a few attendants come out "to help" but really to have a look at the motorhome and ask questions.

If the filler is on the outside they don't know if you are filling a tank or cylinders.

I also carry the certificate Chris at alugas gave me to certify the gas system and the regulations for safe filling but have never needed to use either.

Anyway if I am told "no" I would just go elsewhere. I don't think we have ever used our nearest supplier as we just fill when we see gas if we are about half way down the gauge.
