I've done some searching and the recommended seems to be Westgate or the big Tescos at Quedgley and get the bus in.
It's a sunday and we'll arrive at Gloucester about 1200 to 1300 and really just want to have a mooch about and something for lunch before heading onto Slimbridge for the night.

Any locals got any advice please?

Our eldest daughter lives in Gloucester and we've overnighted on King Edward's Ave against the park without any issues. You'd be fine parking there during the day too. No restrictions. About 20 minutes walk to the Quays, a few minutes more to the Cathedral.
