Embarrassingly, for the first time, it looks as if I’ve been caught out by the weather and need to replace the mixer tap in the bathroom due to frost damage.

There seem to be a range of options available costing from under £20 to well over £150.

Is there a “best” brand that forumites can recommend from personal experience, or are they all much of a muchness? I’d rather ‘buy once and buy well’ but is there a huge difference in the performance and longevity of a more expensive brand when compared to the cheapest?

I’d thought about that but wasn’t sure about mixing 12mm and 13mm piping!

Domestic taps 👍 every time. You can buy 12 mm to 15 mm fittings 👍

We just fitted a cheap one from Screwfix unless you need a microswitch one I can see no advantage in not using a domestic one.

Whats it look like ? Does it have a micro switch for the pump?

B&Q bargain bin for my last taps, complete with metal Flexi hose that I then screwed a reducer to spigot into and pushed on standard MH blue/red hoses.

Thanks all. I thought domestic ones were all 13mm. It needs to be one with a swivelling spout that’s approx 15cm or less.

Not being completely au fait with the latest plumbing work-arounds, if I go for a domestic one, can you get tails that will push into a John Guest-type speedfit joint. This is how the present one connects to the water system, so the speedfit joints are already waiting in place.

Good warranty and replaceable parts

B&Q = very poor quality and bin it if it fails.

Ask at a plumbers merchant or look on eBay for 15 mm to 12 mm reducers then it will fit straight onto your 12 mm van pipework
Edit just looked, lots on eBay or
