I've purchased a Smarty data sim and was going to use it with a 3 mifi unit I have had for a few years. I put the sim in and it connects to my laptop fine but it is not password protected so anyone can use my data! I can't find out how to put a password on it and as the mifi is quite a few years old anyway (3g) i'm thinking of getting a new unit. Does anyone have any recomendations please?

I have the ZTE MF910 [which has been superseded] but is still available paired with a Smarty SIM

I took a deep breath and bought it from AliExpress rather than the ubiquitous Amazon mainly because I wanted to be sure to get the model with external antenna sockets.
The savings were not to be sniffed at either.
I needn't have worried, was delivered as promised after about two weeks.
It was new but wasn't UK branded, but I knew that would be the case.
There's a ZTE app to let you know what's going on, and you can get a full manual online. There's a ZTE control panel website too if you want to tweak/fettle but it worked straight out of the box.

Is where I got mine - there's VAT to pay but free postage and you can get a 10% discount new user code.

I was inspired by this YouTube

All in all, very happy with my £40 ish MiFi

I also followed his suggestion about getting a cheap 5g smartphone to use as a hotspot if you happen to be in a 5g area - 5g mifi units are very expensive.

I use this for my Smarty phone sim ( get better deals with phone sim’s) powered of a 12volt supply, Ive got a Poynting antenna on the roof. Add is nothing to do with me it’s just an example
