Can anybody recommend a digital ammeter that shows plus & minus current up to about 30 amps? I want to be able to see the net charge/discharge to/from the batteries.
Thanks.

I've got a thing from Screwfix, cost about £10. Does the job. :)
Thanks, is it something small that could be left permanently connected?

Well that's weird I'm pretty sure my one did. Sorry
Maybe this one is faulty, it's going back to Amazon anyway.
Thanks.

This one comes with a hall effect sensor so you can pass your battery cable through it so you can see either how many amps you are drawing from the battery or how many amps you are charging at.

Amazon product ASIN B07D35MFBQ
This one looks interesting as it has a 2m long cable which will give me more choice where to mount it. Have you actually used it?

This one is very much like the Victron battery monitor but a lot lot cheaper.

Amazon product ASIN B07CTKYFTG
It looks very good value. Possibly lacks the full functionality of the Victron which allows for charge efficiency, Peukerts exponent and has settings for automatic synchronisation but it is a lot cheaper.

Here a bit more info on it.

It would appear to base the % charge on setting a base level voltage rather than counting amps in and out. I prefer the Victron system because I don’t entirely trust battery voltage as giving an accurate charge level. However at the price it probably gives a pretty fair indication so I am not knocking it.

I was quite taken with this one except having to cut a large hole(54mm) to Mount it, also ,reading the reviews they say the backlight is a problem. It seams to be on wherever a current is flowing, which is almost always,& flashes when batteries are changing.
Thanks.

Like you I prefer to be fully armed with info that our Victron BMV gives us, plus the Victron network in which each Victron device in the system communicates and reacts with each other to me is a price worth paying, totally necessary, maybe not but I like my toys.

I like the bluetooth of the Victron, it saves cutting a hole and running a wire for the display. I have left the display in the battery locker and get the daily info I want from the phone app.

I fitted a £20 Chinese one on my last van it did the but I much prefer the Victron I have fitted in my current van, it gives you a lot more information and you know the state of your batteries at any time.

Do make sure you get one that can handle the max current you are likely to use a lot of the cheap ones only have a 100 amp shunt if you are running an inverter get one with a 200amp shunt if you want to wire the inverter through it.

No Lenny HB the shunt is in the black box which needs to be near the battery but the display needs a power supply and can be connected by bluetooth to shunt.
