Just thought I'd add that the leccy cool boxes you can buy from Halfords only keep the box just below ambient and useless for what you need. A Dometic compressor on the other hand will keep things frozen for ages on their coldest setting.

Also. Try your dog on some freeze dried raw food, get them used to that and you can carry as much as you like without the need for refrigeration (y). Again though, be sitting down when you check the price. <Broken link removed> Cheaper than a fridge though

I've been musing whether a standard 240v domestic mini freezer would be practicable?

Depends on your style of camping (ehu or not) and/or battery bank + solar.

Curry's have this 33litre one at £70

We had a big freezer in the RV and could get 14 days in the freezer easily. Our new van has a freezer just big enough for two magnums and an ice cube tray so we will be feeding freeze dried when away

So, in theory it could work...
Save a lot of money if so.

Never heard of the freeze dried so I will check that out but I still think a electric Cool Box should be ok for perhaps short trips,I can always source raw at maybe the local pet stores,,thank you all for the reply’s

We’ve one, as Jim says, works well enough to keep what’s already cold cold. We ended up using it for drinks, mixers etc and an occasional food stuff, not for long term. But again depends on external temps. Warm/hot weathers made ours less effective but things stayed coldish.

Millies Wolfheart is a raw kibble dog food or try nature's menu packet or tinned raw.

My dog is on raw and we ended up getting the Dometic CFX 75. Twin cabinet, so freezer and fridge or 2 of the same. Brilliant but not cheap. This one was about £1100.

We have a Dometic Coolfreeze CDF 26 which is a compressor coolbox. It is pretty economical on 12 volts and if you have some solar and around say 200Ah of batteries it should fine. We only have a small fridge so the coolbox provides extra space for booze and other less essential foods. :). It sits behind the passenger's seat when travelling in our PVC then between the seats when we stop. The cheaper coolboxes use much more power and don't work well when it is warm.

Just a thought-we looked at options for for carrying extra raw but I would echo Jim and consider introducing a dried food of some sort, especially if you are considering going abroad at any point in the future. You will not be able to take raw meat across the pond unless vet prescribed special diet, and having researched suppliers in France it does not look that easy to get hold of. Raw meat should be frozen for at least 24 hours prior to giving to dogs to help kill off some parasites and bacteria which is difficult in a Moho freezer if straight from a butcher.
We feed our dog a raw diet but have started introducing him to dry food in the hope of travelling abroad in the future. He would not eat Millies Wolfheart so we use Ziwipeak which comes from New Zealand-great quality and 96% air dried raw or more recently Yorkshire produced beef/lamb Innocent pet which is around 70% air dried raw both of which he loves- as he should coz they are both expensive.

I’ve got any icy tech cool box which could be an option for you?

Get it cold with some freezer blocks, get the dog food in, then some fresh freezer blocks and your problem is then not one of keeping it cool, it’s that the contents may have frozen and still be frozen five days later. Zero power consumption, just incredibly well insulated thermal box.
