Just looking
Exp
I'm a newbie
I've asked Santa for a blue tooth speaker for the van so I'm looking for any suggestions for free radio apps plus any podcasts you enjoy. The wider the range of subjects the better.

Think it's time you re tuned your wireless.

Think it’s time you joined the 21st century, he asked for radio apps etc....

Can't see the point of using one app just for one station.

I use 'Radio Player' which gives access to all the others.

Radio Paradise, no ads, very few interruptions to a constant flow of music. Choice of music streams. You can also cache hours of music in advance to avoid data costs.

Castbox for podcasts, automatically downloads a set number of podcasts in a series for offline listening, as for casts...

Stuff you should know
Today in Focus
Lore
Criminal
The Curious Cases if Rutherford & Fry

for good stories (if you can hack American Voices):

Serial - the first series
Dr Death
Dirty John

'UK Radio' is very good for UK stations. I find 'Tune in' is very data hungry.

TuneIn are one of the bigger players for radio stations. They've a world wide range of stations.

edit: add hyperlink

Smooth radio extra. Need extra to cover all the counties
Smooth county not available everywhere
LBC news covers traffic

Thanks. Wide choice of streams, I gave it a go but it had ads and I wasn’t convinced about the download quality. I think I will stick to Radio Paradise.

Take a look at the Anker Bluetooth speakers they have radio built in.

"some" may have ;)
My Anker Bluetooth's additional feature is call handling. Not radio.
Did your speaker have an unattached 'w' sticker? :P :) (last time I'll use that joke - that I stole anyway :o )

Thanks everyone for your contributions plenty for me to get on with.If anyone is interested in classic radio have a look at archive.org.Not the easiest to navigate but lots of past bbc programs.on there Paul Temple Dads army etc.if your that way inclined.

I bought a portable 12v/230v cd/radio from ASDA approx 18-20 years ago for £15 and we have something like 350 CD’s what would I do with that lot ? We have something for every mood.
I do’nt think I’m going to waste all that money, I believe in getting my money’s worth.

The main purpose of 350 CDs would be to have something to listen to in the apocalypse after the internet goes down. I suggest holding on to them for now...

There’s an app and DAB. Sorry I was just trying to help someone who asked for ideas but perhaps I misunderstood the question.
My apologies I misunderstood.Radio Caroline to someone my age was something pre app. Thanks for the suggestion.

Interested to know how this works, do you select a radio show and download or individual tracks.
Can't have a play with it just now but will try it later. 👍🏻

Radio Paradise is a music station but it has some choice about type of music (main mix, mellow mix, rock mix and world mix). The music files are strung together, which gives an option to skip a track you don’t like. There are various levels of download quality that you can opt for, I use the lossless stream. At home I use the live stream. The lossless caches can eat up the storage space on your device. I use an old retired iPhone with lots of gigabytes to spare to load up many hours of lossless music for when away in the motorhome and then use AirPlay to stream to my speaker, Bluetooth works too but it uses some compression.
