As it says

I have just bought three 100w panels for my mh.
They have come pre wired but in 2.5mm.
I will be wiring in parallel so would that be big enough cable or shall I solder some 4mm in and bin the 2.5mm.
The cable run on the roof won’t be far and I’ll fuse it as soon as it’s in the van. From there its in 6mm to the MPPT which is pre wired.
Was just going to use MC4 connections to join everything and put in trunking to keep it all tidy.

Cheers
Rob

2.5mm2 is fine for a short run to a single 100W panel. If you connect them with MC4 Y-connectors, you could use 6mm2 from the MC4 junctions to the controller. MC4 connectors are weatherproof. Also, crimp connectors are more reliable than solder connections in a vehicle, due to the vibration.

I have 6mm cable already fitted from where the panel wiring will come through the roof. Will the 2.5mm be ok to that point?
Are the Y leads in 2.5 or 4.0 do you know.

just buy one male to female cable twice the length you need and cut in half.
Don't bother with Y leads use these or similar, then from the output use 4 or 6 mm cable.

The Y connectors are just connectors, not wires. 2 or more inputs, 1 output. Positive and negative connected separately. Like this:

What will go into your solar regulator will decide the final wire size
I have 6mm fitted from the point of entry from the roof all the way to the MPPT. I will lug the end of the 6mm with pins that will go into the controller but as it’s a Votronic there is more than plenty of room for 6mm cable.
This wasn’t the question though.

That’s fine Lenny, I’ll just do the shortest runs I can in the 2.5mm tails and MC4 them altogether and the final run through the roof in 6mm to pick up the existing cable that was pre wired. I’ll fuse it at that point too I think.
